The writer of this piece is marvelous. Just a total joy to read someone tear into an outrageous & dangerous thing like the biz model the way it actually deserves

@PeachMcD ""The reason Tesla hasn't 'worked all the bugs out yet' is that the company is run by people who hold established best practice in ideological contempt, and is defined by a tech-industry culture that fetishizes innovation and regards product quality as a third-order concern."

Nice.

Yup, can't disagree with that.

@PeachMcD LOL You have no clue how bad the other auto makers are. Why, because they are the largest advertising group, and if one publishes articles pointing out their shoddy products, they boycott your publication. Tesla barely advertises and is good for clicks. So sensational hit pieces are easy to find. Also there are groups like the oil and auto industries that don't want Tesla to succeed so they pay people to author the hit pieces. This is because Tesla's success will disrupt their profits.

PeachMcD,
@PeachMcD@union.place avatar

@Eka_FOOF_A

I will totally agree that all major car manufacturers are corrupt corporations

That truth doesn't remove the stank & his biz model creates & spreads

You're apologizing for a total 💩

Why?
nvm, muting...

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@PeachMcD Maybe you should meet other large corporation executives. On average I'd say they are far worse than Musk. Musk is at least fighting climate change.

How much does Musk pay a dumbfuck like you to shill for him online?

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD You obviously aren't capable of critical thinking. Tesla is disrupting the entire auto and fossil fuel industries. Billions of dollars a day in revenue will be disrupted, and we must disrupt them to have a chance at slowing down climate change. Fossil fuels can't be part of our energy future. We actually must remove huge amounts of carbon from the atmosphere to stabilize temperatures. Tesla is a leader in pushing the switchover to sustainable energy.

How much do you get paid to shill like this?

Eka_FOOF_A, (edited )
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD I'm a real environmentalist who knows how to follow the facts and do the math. I don't follow fads and the latest sensationalisms in the news. The oil industry will do anything to keep their billions of dollars a day in revenue. Paying for people to write hit pieces on the leader (Musk) of the company that will do the most to end their dominance of energy is peanuts.

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@aggualaqisaaq The oil industry funded Reagan's campaign for president so they could get rid of Carter's alternative energy research initiative. It was an oil company that bought the technology in GM's EV1 car. It was an oil company that bought up the pattent for using parallel cylindrical sells like in laptops so it couldn't be used for longer range EVs.

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@aggualaqisaaq Tesla had to wait until those patents expired before they could sell their first Roadster.

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@aggualaqisaaq I've been fighting this fight longer then Tesla has existed. Musk had the money and wanted to make battery EVs. Some jackass, me, told him what an EV could be way back in 2002 when he was trying to hire me for SpaceX.

@Eka_FOOF_A @aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD There are other electric cars. Why just Tesla?

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@joesabin Tesla is the one who pushed and showed battery EVs were not only possible, but could be competitive. They did the research and development to solve many open issues, and they are not sitting on their laurels. They keep pushing the technology forward. They also reinvest all profits into research and development and expanding production. None goes to investors pockets as dividends or management as insanely high salaries. Plus Musk followed my advice. @aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD

joesabin,
@joesabin@mastodon.world avatar

@Eka_FOOF_A @aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD

And yet still produce dangerous fragile cars with fan bois like you. Thus the reason people ask how much are you getting paid to push this drivel you write?

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@joesabin Tesla's have the highest safety ratings of all cars out there. You get to drive the Mercedes ICE car, I'll drive the Tesla Model X. Well each do 100 kph and collide in a head on collision, and see who gets to walk away. @aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@joesabin A big thing to realize is Musk prevailed and won the war to keep EVs from ever getting decent traction. Before Tesla, they were compliance cars only. Big oil tried to do everything they could to kill Tesla, and failed. Musk heeded my warnings, and followed my advice on how to protect the company from oil companies buying it up ans replacing management to destroy it like they did to many alternative energy companies. @aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD

joesabin,
@joesabin@mastodon.world avatar

@Eka_FOOF_A @aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD

OK, no argument that Tesla has had a major impact on changing people's opinion on electric cars. BUT, they are still pieces of crap that the company doesn't stand behind.

What about THAT piece of all this?

Many companies that brought about change did so and failed because they failed to produce products that worked or brought them to the mainstream.

Tesla is a failed company that is held together with fan bois at this point.

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@joesabin Tesla's sales are well beyond fan boy volume. Also you are listening to hit pieces written by shills for oil companies, and those who listen to the hit pieces. Objective evaluations of Teslas usually put them at or near the top in quality, safety, and performance. @aggualaqisaaq @PeachMcD

What's amazing is how successful they have marketed such substandard garbage to people who would seem to be otherwise pretty astute shoppers. Not sure how they did it, but it should be a B-school marketing case study.

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@mastodonmigration @PeachMcD Have you ever ridden or driven a Tesla? They sell themselves. Teslas are what I knew cars could be, but the auto makers didn't want to provide because they couldn't make money on selling repair parts. My trip to visit relatives for xmass dinner, 280 miles round trip, only cost me $12 in electricity.
Here's my referral link: https://ts.la/ekaterine25129 Use it to take a test drive and if you buy. You will be surprised at how good of a car they are.

Eka_FOOF_A,
@Eka_FOOF_A@spacey.space avatar

@mastodonmigration @PeachMcD PS: Everything that makes an EV more efficient, makes it faster. Every Tesla is a performance car. LOL, even their Semi cab, 0-60 in 5 seconds when unloaded.

Tesla's drive a bit different. When you lift up on the 'gas' pedal, they go into regenerative braking and slow down. Pressing on the accelerator gets instant acceleration. No wait for the engine to spool up.

joesabin,
@joesabin@mastodon.world avatar

@Eka_FOOF_A @PeachMcD @joesabin

That seminal book was published in 1965 and did kick off a reform of car safety. Not exactly relevant to our discussion about Tesla today.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@Eka_FOOF_A @PeachMcD

Yes. They are crappy fast cars. You are correct about the inherent advantages of EV cars, but there are many EVs now to choose from, so you can now get the same cool performance without buying a hunk of junk.

Your fan boosterism is exactly the phenomenon that this reply was referring too. It's quite remarkable.

Niall,

@mastodonmigration @PeachMcD I expect for the same reason as people buy new tech every day of the week. They just want the latest, coolest toy and want to be seen with it.
I have no doubt the user experience /rider experience in these cars is superb but at what cost - the Reuters article makes it clear that it is at the expense of standard car industry levels of safety. I am not putting myself or my family inside one of them.

pzriddle,

@Niall @mastodonmigration @PeachMcD Agreed that they market to novelty chasers, but they also market to people who (however naively) want to do right by the planet.

"My next car will be electric" is a statement I hear a lot, and Tesla somehow made itself market leader for that audience. For a lot of people it may be the only EV brand they know.

@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@pzriddle @Niall @PeachMcD

Understood. As the Tesla enthusiast posting in this thread demonstrates they combine a hodgepodge of virtue signaling, phony facts and cool factor to achieve a cult like enthusiasm for buying and proudly driving around in a total piece of crap in spite of all evidence to the contrary. It's pretty remarkable how they do it.

mastodonmigration,
@mastodonmigration@mastodon.online avatar

@pzriddle @Niall @PeachMcD

Should be more charitable. Do concur the 'doing the right thing' is a big part of their motivation. That Tesla has been successful in establishing this positioning, again in spite of everything else about the cars and the company, is what's so interesting.
