Xanthiom 2600

Afaik this started as a modern Metroid demake for the Atari 2600 and it’s pretty much what it is. Of course it’s very bare bones because of the platform it’s on but it’s a decent representation and it’s got the spirit of the original. Fortunately it’s a good bunch shorter and easier because there’s no saving games or checkpoints in this one! I think this is as enjoyable as a game can get.

It’s free to download here: https://mathangames.itch.io/xanthiom-2600

WRATH: Aeon of Ruin

The worthy 1 sequel we never got. This is not just a but what I call an exploration , very few games are like it and I love the genre. Great looking and playing game. Level design is very diverse in style and gameplay. It’s best in class and has beautiful brushwork. Love the movement additions for fun secret hunting and sequence breaking and the alternative quicksave system gave some extra tension. Chef’s kiss.

Skwish for @playdate by @pawprints

If you first look at it you think this will be an extremely simple Sokoban clone, but the twist in this game is that you become the blocks when you push into it. Blocks with matching colors stick to each other and you only can leave the block again if you get the shapes to get stuck to an object. Some of these puzzles really made my brain hurt in a good way. Simple concept, good execution!

Celeste by @EXOK

After the Celeste 64 mod I did, I thought of finally finishing this game after years abandoned. I was about 1/3th in and mostly left all berries.

It’s only fun with a good dpad and apparently the Switch Pro controller has an horrendous one, probably the reason I bailed the 1st time, but now I switched to an 8bitdo pad and had so much more joy with it!

Truly fun when you air ballet in the endgame and a good/deep story for a 2D platformer as well

Crazy doom custom level which seems cursed. Absolutely got me scared somewhere. “Holy shit!”.

Go and play this without looking too much up, absolutely dope experience.

Golden Axe (Megadrive)

One of the first games I remember playing (on the Amiga). It’s still fun but a bit clunky. Would’ve been way more fun multiplayer probably. The final two stages and especially the final boss is pretty bullshit, needed to spend all my credits on that one, but finally made it through.

Also why does the blue thief steal my pot?

High Stakes (pico-8)

Fantastic little game of chance where you have to deduct where the vampire card is in a grid of 9 cards. Win back all your blood from the vampires who stole 4980ml of it.

Good music and nice puzzle gameplay. However I did find a way to cheese it and if you want to grind you can just win it eventually.

Go give it a try: https://krystman.itch.io/high-stakes

Sucker For Love: Prelude

Some prequel to the eldrirch dating sim Sucker For Love. You have to perform all kind of rituals to get a smooch of the cthulan hottie 😆. It almost plays like a light point and click adventure. I wonder if the full version gives more freedom. We’ll find out probably soon!

Frog’s Adventure

A very charming handdrawn point and click adventure about a frog which saves the animals from their curse of having a brain.

Normally not a fan of the genre but this one was never obtuse like others and it also has some very simple object pushing puzzles to spice it up a bit. Overal very cute, would recommend as a starter point & click.

Fishing Vacation

A game boy styled fishing adventure which is a very adequate game for this month 👻.

This game is cursed!

I like this idea of a tag when you want to talk about a game you just finished playing. It's more specific to playing than which applies to any activity.

Mastodon's lack of text search means we need more interesting hashtags to find topics. I feel awful about spamming tags at the end of a post, so finding tags people actually use are more important.

My last for the alphabet challenge and went out with a bang!

Beautiful illustrated game with addictive mechanics and very chill dynamic music. Similar to my favorite indie games Pixeljunk Eden with the floaty jumping through vector filled spaces.

Jump and dash to floating islands using all kind of different obstacles which react differently on your dash. Find the children scattered through Copenhagen and when done there’s tons more content.

What a beaut!

The Ultimate Doom.

I hate to say it but the level design in this game is rough. The first episode is fun but after it becomes mazes, requires you to throw yourself in the lava and find secrets to progress. There’s a lot of useless rooms. The 1st maps are a drag killing high level enemies with just a gun. It isn’t even difficult just annoying tbh. It’s like playing the level designers sketches. Had fun though.

Technically I need to finish ep4 too but can’t bring myself to it.
