Three generations of one family operated it until 1970. Since the second half of the 18th century, Ronsdorf was an important centre of ribbon weaving in the Bergisches Land (North Rhine-Westphalia). As you can see, several ribbons can be woven at once. With the start of industrial steel production in the Ruhr area, many hammer mills in the Bergisches Land region ceased operations or underwent a change of use, including this one. From then on, it became a rag mill: the so-called artificial or torn wool was made from the torn textiles. The hammer mill is now in the Lindlar Open-Air Museum.
