A poop and blood test suggest this might just be a bacterial tummy bug (bacteria found in poop, but blood tests look strong). Dinah’s had a shot of antibiotics, subcutaneous fluids and an anti-vomit medication. We trudged home through the rain and she’s just eaten a good lunch! So I’m hoping we’re on the mend. #OhDinah#RescueCats#CatsOfMastodon
Everyone, you must meet Dinah. The Japan Cat Network are searching for new premises in Tokyo since their current apartment building is being demolished (!). I am therefore fostering Dinah (at least) temporarily to make the move a little easier. Like #CassieCat, she is quite shy and cannot be petted. But perhaps #NorahNeko and I can work our magic all over again 🪄. #OhDinah
Although our cage was open all day, a reconnaissance mission was not attempted until dinner time. Mission revealed the existence of a closet. We now live here. #OhDinah
Overnight, Dinah has discovered the hidey box that I put out in the top half of the closet (Cassie also loved this spot!). A new base has been established. #OhDinah
A cat-astrophe occurred yesterday when our litter box was changed from a small foldable box with clumping litter, to a proper large box (now we’re free to roam the apartment) with pellet litter IDENTICAL to what we’ve used for years at the cat shelter.
We hated it. Did not recognise it as a litter box. And did a pooh in our hidey box.
Box was washed and we had to move to the window bed. Terrible, as our expression clearly shows that we think this house is full of madmen. #OhDinah#RescueCats
We emerged since we believed you had vacated this apartment and left it to us. Your reappearance is disappointing. Although our food bowl is empty so perhaps also… timely. Perhaps you could depart again shortly. #OhDinah
I have persuaded Dinah to use the large litter box and not the tiny travel box! Following a suggestion by @rozesall, I placed the travel box on the tray of the big box and each night built the big box up a little more around it, before finally swapping over the litter. We’re still on a mix of clumping and non-clumping litter but… much better than a travel box! #OhDinah#rescuecats
Dinah—it must be said—makes #CassieCat look like an extrovert. While Cassie couldn’t initially be touched, she loved toys giving me an “in” to interact with her and build our relationship. #OhDinah… barely leaves her box and thinks toys are invasive garbage! She’s food-motivated but won’t even accept treats when offered in a hand. So… I’ve decided to try and give her all wet food in a bowl I insist on holding. Patience required but it does work! Maybe we can build up to bare hands from there!
I have attempted a range of TEMPTING TOYS! See them wriggle, Dinah! How can you resist? I don’t even have to be holding these ones for you to play! But… alas 😅 The webcam tells me she’s not even down for it when I’m not there. #OhDinah
This morning, #OhDinah was on the window bed instead of hiding in her bed-box! A win that was later negated by her returning to her bed-box, being too nervous to go to the litter box with myself and #NorahNeko in the room, and having diarrhoea 🤦🏼♀️ #RescueCats
We have wee’d on a cat bed again. I think the issue was that guest kitty Yanko used our litter box overnight and we didn’t want to go in the same spot 🤦🏼♀️ There are two other litter boxes available… clean… but perhaps a bit hidden (one is out in the hallway and who knows what happens to kitties who venture so far, and the other was a small box inside a cage: also highly risky!). I removed the cage and small box, and put a bigger box nearby. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 #OhDinah#RescueCats
Our closet was rearranged and we don’t like the slightly different location of our hide-y box. So we’ve decided to live on this narrow wooden shelf. #OhDinah#RescueCats#CatsOfMastodon
