“Six days to start something and then six years to find someone else to hand it to” is also the story 😅

Some thoughts on spam:

  1. Right now it's a single idiot running a scripted Joe Job. But we know how spam ecosystems develop. The next steps are inevitable.

  2. Next, someone will release an activitypub spamming script. It will hammer on servers to create throwaway accounts then use them to post.

  3. This will drive a bunch of small servers off the fediverse and cause acrimonious defederation squabbles.

  4. Surviving servers will limit sign-ups, requiring proof of humanity (or identity).

Well, smart server administrators have some limiting factor in signups. Wise server admins like those at and both do this. Even something as simple as a dialog box asking why you want to be a member will stymie automatic signups by a spambot.

Open registrations seem like a fun, OK idea, until they become a terrible idea overnight.

I want to talk about why I’m leaving #WanderingShop after more than six years on this instance. It’s because of a recent moderation decision that has led me to understand that the moderation team is unwilling and unable to protect Jewish users from antisemitism and harassment, and worse they seem unable to recognize really blatant and obvious antisemitic tropes and conflate them with “pro-Palestinian” sentiments which does a massive disservice to both Palestinian and Jewish people.

The first excerpt from my forthcoming novel, FAILURE TO COMPLY, has been published in Travesties Magazine!
