I am exploring Lemmy right now and what I see is very worrying to me, but I also don't understand wth is going on with some instances here. I don't know if it's smart to post this, but here we go....
So in your world it is acceptable for me to say that you’re an evil person for disagreeing with me and should be shot where you stand?
That’s absolutely ridiculous, and actually a crime in a decent number of the countries. And if that’s not what you’re saying I think that you don’t actually know what your free speech maximalism means, because people who believe those things and say those things exist and they want to hurt people.
Then explain why i cant scream FIRE in a movie theater, or call a mall and tell them I’m going to bomb them, or walk up to someone on the street and say “give me all your money or i’ll blow your brains out”. After all its all just speech isn’t it?
Are you high? Do you think governments are run by witches who can hex people? Of course the government can’t stop you from physically saying something!
The same way they can’t stop you from building a bomb, cooking meth, stabbing someone in an alley, or anything else that’s illegal.
The way laws work is to prevent people from doing things by making them illegal, what are you talking about?
Apologies if this is the wrong place for this. A few subs opened up and were discussing the possibility of extending the blackouts. The majority wanted the blackout to end to keep the influx of content. That was to be expected....
I run a few groups, like @fediversenews, mostly on Friendica. It's okay, but Friendica resembles Facebook Groups more than Reddit. I also like the moderation options that Lemmy has....
I'm still trying to get my head above water, but I've learned enough to start being able to browse and post. I still haven't found the instance I want to use as a home instance, and don't know how to browse instances other than the one i'm on. But these things come in time, and im willing to learn.
What's with the schism between lemmygrad and beehaw?
