A generator recovery feature for Perchance (a.k.a. restore points) (sh.itjust.works)

When I was starting to create a new generator and the new 2.0.20.1 update for my hub page, I was afraid of my PC randomly turning off whilst in the mid of my work, thus I was thinking of a “restore points” feature for Perchance ever since long ago. Since I don’t save generators too much, and I have a fear of accidentally...

@perchance Looking for some potentials, I think this would be great to implement this as an actual Perchance feature.

The Generative Background Template (perchance.org)

This has been a fairly new template I’ve been creating for a very long time, since The Searchable Collection Template that came out over a year ago. And actually, this is the first ever AI-powered template I’ve ever made within the Power Generator Manager generator family (amongst other undiscovered ones in the entire...

Woah, you responded so quick 🤯

you said u have a special collection for projects people make with your templates?

Yeah, I think it’ll be under a section in the home page in the 2.0.20.1 update of my hub (or something else), and with the power of experiments, I’d be able to change the layout of the home page without affecting the version number just to be able to experiment with that 🙂

Or I could just have a feature where users could enable “visible experiments” for that in a future update, so that the normal home page will still be visible but there will be a toggle that enables that experimental home page

You can moderate the gallery to remove all the unwanted images, right? I’m pinging the dev anyways @perchance, this might be a serious issue.

BluePower,
@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah, I have just downvoted one. The post about the moderation example states that it only supports phrase-banning (no regex) and not individual removing.

And maybe that’s the reason you can access the admin feature without even entering a password just yet, it’s just a “hidden” feature in the gallery. You can basically show all the phrase-filtered images as far as I know.

BluePower,
@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

These are really good points. Also, I’d like to be able to also get a variable of an array of saved images from the gallery (i.e. the result object from the onFinish() but with the generated images that are from the gallery).

[Bug] `text-to-image-plugin` sometimes stuck on "Processing" until I hover over or scroll until the edge touches the image generation frame(s)

This is a problem that I’ve been encountered very often but not as inconvenient as the previous bugs I’ve been reported on this community. It was stuck on “Preparing” or “Preprocessing” even though console messages already told me that the image had already been generated successfully, and the only way to reveal the...

@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

Unrelated: I also saw a post by @eatham about the broken offline editor and demands a fix for it (lemmy.world/post/11403025), in case you hadn’t noticed it. @perchance

BluePower,
@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

That also makes sense, but it did not always happen. When I try to click on generate multiple times on the Text to Image Plugin Example, the image always automatically pops out without even any interaction on the single text-to-image-plugin frame. But when I add more frames, the “bug” happened.

I’m assuming this is more likely of an issue when multiple frames are trying to reveal the generated images each other one by one, so that doing some “activity” is required to do that.

New Power Generator Manager update, version 2.0.20.0.3 (New backgrounds, new accent colors...)

Yet another unplanned update, but regardless, it brings some massive updates out of the box, including the early background change and a bunch of neat improvements!

While making this update, I remembered VioneT’s comment in my post about the Generator Jam:

I also recommend that if you made something, post it/share it, do not be discouraged about how unfinished it is, how bad it is, or how silly it is. If you are looking to learn, then you need feedback and someone to point you in the right direction. Some people may give negative comments, but that as well is feedback.

Yes indeed. And there will be even more updates (or maybe experiments) to cover the incompleteness in my hub page even more. 🙂

I still wonder how these sample images still survive on imgur, even after the deletion incidence. Great story, I didn’t know that long ago.

Update: I think all the imgur sample images there have now been changed to the ones hosted on user-uploads.perchance.org! @Alllo

[Question] Is there a way to style the Gallery Background? (lemmy.world)

There is a style option and the background can be styled, but it seems to be styling a div ‘behind’ the gallery which is only visible in weird flashes when scrolling. try style = background-color:rgb(0,255,0); in a gallery to see what i’m talking about. Would love to make the background of beautiful people black to match...

BluePower,
@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

After some code-diving through text-to-image-plugin, it seems like the style is attached only to the main <iframe> of the gallery, not the entire gallery framework nor the <div> behind. @perchance pinging dev.

Tip: If your title and/or $meta.description doesn't include the specific keywords/terms that people are likely to type in a web search, then it makes it much harder for people to find your generator

For example, if you’ve made a world building religion generator, and you title it “The Arch Bible” or something like that (i.e. something that’s more of a “brand” than a “description”), then people won’t be able to use a web search engine to find it unless they already know its name. In other words, people...

Probably not, they only disallow and allow some Google subpages. Also @perchance this could be on a different post/explanation.

If you use a tool to do your wordlengths, you should use BluePower’s imo because that’s supportive.

Yeah, I don’t even realize that my Character Counter Lab can be used as a tool to determine how many characters/letters it has on an input. 😆

As with the search results, I have changed the description of the counter lab page a few days ago, and yet, on that it still hasn’t changed since. Maybe we need to wait for a couple more days or a couple weeks. I’ve also very recently changed the title to add the (original) part after the Counter Lab text after seeing a copy being displayed below it.

Checked out the current growth of the flag generator and the generator manager from last Thursday. It was gone from 8290 views to 8613 views today this 11 AM, meanwhile my generator hub page had 16005 views and now has 16375 views. It’s crazy to think when comparing these though.

And after some calculating, the flag generator has gained another +323 views and my generator hub page’s +370 views, since last Thursday. Still the fastest! 😃 But I’m still amazed how that simple generator can grow so fast that it’s close to my hub page. And it’s unpredictable whether or not the flag generator will soon surpass the growth or even overtake the generator hub page…

And in the chart, I can see that the growth has been going faster and faster recently, eventually surpassing the name generator. I updated the Generator Manager once every 3-6 hours, and I have almost left the flag generator unedited like a few days, only been updating it once a day.

https://sh.itjust.works/pictrs/image/728d4bb2-2019-4259-8999-acf8aea87c68.png

If you didn’t know, the gray one is the generator manager, orange is the flag generator, and red is the name generator.

Edit: Correcting my calculations. This kind of thing is still sort of out of my control, though.

BluePower,
@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

@perchance Do traction from the generators page also really count? I see some new, fresh generators (even the simple ones) slowly gained some views (like 20 to 30 on first-day launch) and I’m assuming they are likely getting the first attentions from people visiting on the generators page. And since updating the generator brings it to the top of the recently updated generators, doing this regularly could potentially contribute to that, since more and more people are likely to find the new generator, some are feeling curious because of the link and thumbnail, and sometimes ended up clicking on it. Thus getting a few views, even when it’s not yet being indexed or the generator has very minimal organizing of the title/description, and after a while, one of the two factors mentioned could also happen.

I want to find this out for a while, because people have said that if I want more people to see my generators, I’ll need to update the generator at least once or several times a day in order to get some “attention” from it.

So, in short, updating a generator to get to the generators page could be helpful to hook people from that page to view it and eventually get indexed by the search engine, and then you can try to get into the two factors to get that generator popular.

Perchance Saving Bugs

There were a few instances where in the editor ended up failing to "save", but the generator saving process still succeeded and is still recorded in the revisions.

I was editing my generator hub page that day and saved it by clicking on the save button and then it errors after a classic 20 seconds...

I decided to check the DevTools network and it shows all the details behind that saving process, and things look suspicious, until the revisions told me wrong.

@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

Thanks for the code snippet, I’m actually working on another Generator Manager update and have started to implement this into the total view calculation function (totalStats()). Though I’m not sure if this could be used for the view counters in the generator items.

For now, the code for the function looks a bit like this:

Code for a future Generator Manager updateasync function totalStats() { // We already had the URLs from all the generators on the page and compiled them through the all_link variable let tot = await fetch(“https://perchance.org/api/getGeneratorStats?names=”+all_link.joinItems(“,”)).then(r => r.json()); let ftot = 0; for (let v of tot.data.map(x => x.views)) { ftot += v; // Add up to make the total views } // We need to set two total view counters in the top banner and on the Statistics section in the About page for (let el of document.querySelectorAll(“.tstxt”)) { el.innerHTML = enableRawStats ? ftot.toLocaleString() : formatNumber(ftot); } // Set the total views counter in the top banner }; totalStats();The totalStats() function is now an async function and sets the total view counter on the top banner right away instead of just returning the value of it, so this time I no longer need a timer that does this job consecutively anymore. And this greatly reduced the delay for the total views counter to appear.

I’ve added some code to potentially help speed things up, and ensure that “saving…” immediately shows when you hit ctrl+s,

Is this implementation still triggers the “error” whenever the save fails after 20 seconds, and instead of staying on the “saving…” state indefinitely? I see that nowadays it still occasionally ends up on the “error” state.

@perchance pinging once again.

BluePower, (edited )
@BluePower@sh.itjust.works avatar

IIRC sometimes it did end up on the “error” and goes back to the save button. Maybe that is because of bad connection or something, I’ve been receiving a lot of occasional delays (that took up to 30 minutes to just load a generator) but not as common as now. Maybe that’s why it affected the save, because that loading process also interferes the saving function.

Edit: Yeah, as of right now, when I’m saving my hub page, the “bad connection” thing happened, and the save button remained on “saving” state when the console told me that the 20-second timeout was exceeded. This is strange, because before that the save button would end up on the “error” state.

@perchance #Perchance Post in Lemmy.World using Mastodon

How to Post using Mastodon

Your mastodon post should look like this (remove the space between @ and perchance)

@ perchance@lemmy.world This is the title

This is the body.

How to Reply to a Post in Lemmy using Mastodon

First you need to copy the URL of the post from Lemmy, then search that URL in Mastodon, then you will find the post and reply to it.

Just to add: You don’t need to put @perchance in the title, you just need to include it anywhere in the body (preferably at the end of the paragraph, like this):

<span style="color:#323232;">This is the title
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;">This is the 2nd paragraph.
