I think this has to be in the contention for most overrated game of all time.

Before you grab your pitchfork, I’m not saying it’s a bad game. It’s fine. The combat is solid, the boss fights are fun and it’s very pretty. Was very well optimised too, ran like a dream on an old, fat first gen PS4.

It’s not the greatest game of all time though, or anything close to it. The open world is your garden variety UbiSoft style, the tone and the writing is all in a stoic monotone with only crumbs of Kenji to break it up, and the quest design is uninspiring at best and awful at worst. On top of it all the game is way too long considering those flaws.

I know it’s been hyped up, but I still recommend waiting for a sale.

Hopefully they release this for Cyberpunk as well. I’m sort of over Witcher 3, but I’d be very interested in what modders can do in CP2077. Many of them have been chomping at the bit for something like this.

Makes sense it’s being released now, as well, what with CDPR moving away from the REDengine to Unreal.

Please don’t let Beamdog near it. I like the UI and QoL improvements in the EEs and all, but by god they should not be writing for a mainline BG entry.

Don’t think people should downvote you for this opinion, especially with you even being respectful about it.

I had a good time with BG3 (though I’m less high on it than most people), but at the end of the day it’s clearly a Larian-game. If you didn’t like the Divinity series you probably won’t enjoy BG3, and if you had hoped for a BG 1&2 feel, you would probably be a bit let down.

That’s a tale as old as time, whether it is heritage, nations, religions or products people tie their identity to.

I know what you mean - and combat in D:OS2 would often devolve into pure silliness - but at the same time their proprietary systems also had more play and more interesting wrinkles to them than the 5E they were shackled to in BG3. I can’t decide which I think is better really.

How to deal with a fear of failure?

Due to this, I’m afraid of working on my own projects. This fear especially intensifies when I’m reaching some kind of milestone or personal goal (e.g. implementing a feature in software, or going to the next phase of a drawing), and end up procrastinating instead. Even worse is that I believe if I could get them finished, I...

I don’t think I’ve seen that particular video, but just wanted to chime in with a general endorsement of Game Makers Toolkit. Absolutely superb channel, highly recommended not just for game makers but for anyone interested in the mechanics and general nuts-and-bolts of gaming.

I was actually thinking about this game the other day and struggling to remember its name, so this was a great reminder, thank you!

I remember seeing a hype post about it a couple of months ago and having my interest piqued, but I forgot to wishlist. I’ve never played Suikoden but it looks promising. I have some reservations in a couple of areas, but the style looks great and anything with a fishing minigame has its foot in the door with me.

I just hope they didn’t go wide but not deep with the whole hundred heroes thing.

The cat is out of the bag and despite many years of warning before this and similar technology became widely available, nobody was really prepared for it - and everyone is solely acting in their own best interests (or what they think their best interests to be). I think the biggest failure is that despite there being warnings...

The only attractive thing about Merc is that they did once nail a new engine regulation and subsequently dominated. I’m not sure Alonso even wants to take the gamble on them repeating that, and everything else about them currently doesn’t inspire confidence. They’ve clearly struggled to understand the current regulations, and three years in a row with constant grave correlation errors is a huge red flag.

As for RBR, they probably aren’t interested, honestly. They don’t want someone challenging Max, they just want a stable number two. If anything, they’d also probably want someone younger than Checo to hopefully have a stable nr.2 for the rest of the duration of Max’s contract.

Also, I’m not even sure Alonso would want to go there. I think he knows Max is better than him, and I don’t think he would want to go there and be consistently beaten. He needs to luck into a car that is better than Max’s, and of the options open Aston is really the best. They’ll be a Honda works team for 2026 and Honda is the reigning constructors champions’ engine provider. That’s got to be the year he’s essentially gambling on with this contract.

I dunno, Kimi was like that for a long time up until he finally retired, but I get the sense being competitive is much more important to Alonso. The last couple of years he’s repeatedly said he’ll bow out once he feels he can’t perform anymore, and I believe him.

I’m actually happy to hear that. I was afraid it would take too much inspiration from the Bethesda games, but sounds like maybe they looked more at Fallout 1 and 2, which would be just what I hoped they would.

I’m excited to give it a chance now.

Lots of great suggestions below already, thought I’d add The Prestige. Peak Nolan in my opinion, and definitely benefits from going in blind.

The Metro system was okay in the first game (especially since the bad ending is the intended canon ending), but I have to say the awareness of its existence is part of why I never finished Last Light. Making sure to sit through all the dialogues and do all the things to gain karma every time is such a pain in a game without manual saving.

I’ll try to get through it again some time though, I’ve heard Exodus is great.

I don’t even think the Dark Urge was intended to be played as evil. I picked it for my first and only playthrough but played it as redemption-seeking, and all the evil options (DUrge-specific or otherwise) seemed so uninteresting. Completely agreed about the games’ villains, too. In fact, I have some general issues with the BG3 writing overall.

I can’t tell whether the most satisfying evil gameplay in modern gaming is in Disco Elysium or Among Us. But it’s definitely a hard one to get right.

I don’t think even the fascist route in Disco is particularly evil, to be honest. It’s mostly just sad. Very well written though. Caught me by surprise.

Fully agree about Among Us though, I didn’t think of it but you’re spot on, that’s a game that lets you be actually evil in a satisfying way.

Suzuka is one of the best tracks on the calendar, and for once it actually also followed through and delivered one of the best races in a while (Red Bull’s easy victory notwithstanding).

Combination of a lost FP2 and drastically different temps than earlier during the weekend probably helped. Lots of teams struggling with strategy, every compound in play and no obvious fastest line meant lots of tyre offsets all over the race and lots of action all the time. Fantastic strategy battle in lots of places with some really interesting results, most notably of course Leclerc doing that fantastic one-stop and ending up gaining 4 places. Plenty of overtakes too, especially for Suzuka, with some really nice ones too. I loved Yuki’s move on Hulk.

Alonso had a quietly impressive weekend I thought, did well in qualy to start in front of a couple of faster cars and managed to keep all of them bar Leclerc behind. Thought the soft gambit would backfire but he managed 12 laps on them and Aston timed both his pit stops perfectly letting him spend most of the race in clean air. Good defense at the end against Piastri, too.

Lastly, Yuki shines again, happy for him on his home race. The pit crew deserves almost half the credit as his perfect pitstop probably earned him the point, but he did everything he needed to to secure it and drove great all race. Even got to make that move on Hulk in front of the home fans.

Was great entertainment overall and a good reminder of how great strategy battles can be. We had too many M-H onestoppers last year.

That’s what I read too, if anyone knows otherwise please let me know. I’ve been looking forward to Hellblade 2, but locked 30 FPS on PC sounds wild.

The drivers also seem split on the matter, so the drivers meeting will be very interesting. Norris was particularly vocal about the penalty being wrong, for example.

I did enjoy LivestreamFail on the other site being Northernlion-only for a day as April Fools this year. However, harmless, fun and wholesome April Fool’s are so few and far between.

We struggle with misinformation in our society already, and on a smaller, more personal scale I always found April Fools to be an extremely mean-spirited tradition purely existing to promote and encourage having fun at the expense of others. I never enjoyed humiliating others, and I don’t enjoy being pointed and laughed at either.

I think I’ll pass.
