It looks very much like they are just trying to hit notes from the first two films.

I am yet to be interested in this. For better or worse, most films in the franchise took unique directions, but this looks more like a trendy remake of the original.

It doesn’t “just” do that. It totally reverses the ability for governments to block people from voting. If it’s an obligation then people must be provided a reasonable chance to vote. It makes more people engaged in politics as well instead of “can’t be bothered”

Most of that is fine except for doing the hand thing to a stranger, and maybe the not asking about adopting.

The hand thing is clearly an established expression of affection within that family. Lots of families have little codes or nicknames or in jokes. It is odd that the kid didn’t react poorly to it, although I think it was done to him earlier in the film when Travolta has Cage’s face.

The wife would clearly be aware of the dad’s trauma about losing their boy, and there may be a whole thing about it that we never see of them spending years considering if they could or should have another child. Maybe Travolta called ahead and asked his wife if they could foster the kid for a bit and the “okay?” was more of a “do you think we are ready” kind of comment.

The hand thing doesn’t go unexplained. We see it in the flashback where his son dies. With such a young kid it just seems like the classic “a parent adores their child so much they just have to touch them” that happens all the time in real life.

How is the kid thing more unbelievable because the movie has face swapping and magnet prison technology. If anything it should be easier to believe that people adopt victims of trauma, especially when he has already had time to bond with the kid. Why aren’t you complaining about why we don’t get extra scenes of the people inventing the magnet boots instead of why we didn’t see years of marital discussions about the finer details of having another kid.

I guess the question is: if you host a public forum, are you liable for things posted on it, or on separate but linked forums?

Copyright laws are actually very difficult to enforce when it comes to digital piracy. You have to prove loss of profit among other things.

Then, who do you sue? The person downloading the product? The person hosting the product? The person providing a link to the hosted data? The person providing a platform for people to link things? The person who allows their platform to federate with another platform that does?

If we’re talking about P2P sharing, then in a way no one is hosting the data.

In Australia when the Dallas Buyers Club case was being looked at, the studio was asking for a lot of money. Basically a big fat fine to be paid. The judge threw it out saying that the only reasonable damages for one person to pay would be the cost of the DVD because that was the value of the “theft”.

You could list your accounts in priority, and the highest account that has access to the post you’re reading will be responsible for the vote.

Did the admins state anything? I thought the issue here is that LW previously did something without an announcement, undid it and promised to communicate before doing something like that again, and now people are saying they haven’t communicated this time.

That’s the real issue, not the fact that it was defederated.

Couldbealeotard,

I don’t know enough about law to know how that does or does not work, but it that’s possible then any entity with enough money can actively bankrupt anyone they want, and it won’t have anything to do with why. If that’s true could you not just sue someone by making stuff up and force them to prove you made it up?

Comments like this sound like the “they write it off on tax” comments, where there’s this assumption about how complex things must work, but it can’t work exactly that way otherwise we would see it happening all the time.

It’s only graffiti of it’s unwanted. Otherwise it’s art.

I don’t know if this Banksy person gets permission first, and the impromptu appearance is just theatre, but the council wants to have at from a celebrated artist.

If you’re not a celebrated artist a better approach might be getting permission first.

Last time I checked, you can still make one without an email, but you have to click on a very small ambiguous hyperlink during creation. It’s possible this is no longer the case.

Being able to make throwaway accounts has been the back bone of Reddit for a long time. People want a right to privacy.

I appreciate the frank opinions here. This game got overhyped by ffxiv fans. You couldn’t get an honest impression on this game, it was just “ffxiv is the best game ever, and ffxvi is being made by the same team therefore this will be the best game ever”

I must say I’ve seen in increase of conversations on Reddit that seem like everyone involved has severe lead poisoning.

Some of season one was great! Then season two took a story that was only one and two half issues in the comic and dragged it out into a whole boring season.

The worst thing about the show is that they took things from the comic and thought “what if we do this but change it to make it less awesome.”

Couldbealeotard,
@Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world avatar

They did what?

Couldbealeotard,

I didn’t think it was ambiguous at all. The word “snap” is printed at her neck when it happens.

Couldbealeotard,
@Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world avatar

I’m disagreeing. The ambiguity was retconned later because Marvel didn’t want to commit to Spider-Man “causing” her death.

In the original comic, she is alive and looks like she’s in a state of shock according to Peter. Goblin even threatens to kill her, further confirming she is alive. She gets pushed over the edge of the bridge, and he neck is snapped when the web stops her fall. The clear intent in the story telling is that she is alive until the snap. You even quote Roy Thomas stating as such in print a few episodes later.

I don’t know if it’s still a thing, but back when I actually used physical home media every Bluray disc contained a software update file so if you put it in your player you could install the update to allow you to play it.

I’ve heard that’s why babies respond to shushing and vacuum cleaners. Apparently it’s a similar sound to the blood flow heard from inside the body

Season 8 was supposed to be the end. They wrapped up both the replicator and goauld arcs. They were going to make a spin off called Stargate Command, but at some point they changed to title back to SG-1.

The “you wouldn’t download a car” joke is one thing. What I don’t understand is how people genuinely use a satirical joke as a supporting argument for piracy, or a critique of anti-piracy.

The advertising never said downloading a car. It was stealing a car, which is very clearly a crime.

You are free to claim auto theft is not comparable to digital piracy. You are free to suggest that somehow in the future you’d be able to home manufacturer a vehicle (although a bit far fetched IMO). But criticizing an ad campaign for something they’ve never said is just silly.

Couldbealeotard,
@Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world avatar

Like I said, you’re welcome to talk about it being an invalid comparison, but the advert did not state you wouldn’t download a car.
