Way back when, Pixar were going to make a film called Newt. It was about two rare species of Newt, one of each gender, who needed to mate to save their species. Unfortunately, the female couldn’t stand the male. For whatever reason, they escape the lab and have an adventure.

Apparently this was around the time Rio was released and the stories were apparently too similar. (I haven’t seen Rio, do I don’t know), so the project was canned.

It’s a shame as I really liked the concept art which can be found online and I really liked the style.

In fact, newt makes two small tiny cameos in other Pixar films.

Edgar Wright In Talks For "Barbarella" - Dark Horizons (www.darkhorizons.com)

Beloved British filmmaker Edgar Wright (“Hot Fuzz,” “Baby Driver”) is in talks to direct the new “Barbarella” at Sony Pictures. In addition, Jane Goldman and her daughter Honey Ross are also in talks to write the script for the project which is still in the early development stage. Jane Fonda famously played the...

Kevin Costner on physical media: "DVD is not dead" (www.joblo.com)

“Death of the what? DVD is not dead, at all,” Kevin Costner said. “That’s what they’d have you believe. Maybe it’s not making the same amount of money, but just try to go ask for that from the studio. They won’t give that up. A lot of people that like my movies, they can’t get to a theater, and they’re waiting...

The fan film made the news recently because the day of the new live action films announcement, Warner Bros had it taken down from YouTube in a copyright claim. But it was restored about 24 how later.

Isn’t Reform a company rather than an actual political party? Tice is a chairman but not a democratically voted in one.

I’m sure when I was a lad there were only two types of trailer, or at least the ones I remember. First there was a teaser trailer that would only last for about a minute and was quite coy in what to reveal. Although in fairness, that’s probably because there wasn’t enough footage ready to make a trailer, especially if it contained special effects elements.

The second trailer would later arrive, two minutes at most, containing special effects shots, and it would give you an idea of the film without revealing too much.

What have we got now? The entire film in three minutes to make sure everyone comes to see the film. I don’t, I feel like I’ve seen it and have no plans on watching it now. cough The Fall Guy cough

Wow, that was cool.

Instead, we get this over and over again.

You’ve reminded me of The Force Awakens teaser trailer. Only a few shots of the main characters with no idea of the story at all.

This also carries on to the next 2½ minute trailer with no clues to the story really. I thought they were well done.

I did wonder about the trailer, was it the whole plot or just the start of the film. It’s a bit of a gamble.

The problem with those videos is that they’re designed for the YouTube advert system. Show the big moments to get them interested and then they sit and watch the ad/trailer rather than skip it.

It looks odd when you’re viewing it separately though.

In the beginning, it was a mix of LiftOff! and Jerboa. The dev of LiftOff! had twins and understandably, he hasn’t returned and the app has fallen to the wayside.

So I tried Thunder (available on Android and iOS) and it’s been really good, lots of regular updates and features as well.

B-Movie King Roger Corman Dead At 98 - Dark Horizons (www.darkhorizons.com)

Did you know, it was Roger Corman who told a young writer that if he could write a Mad Max rip off, he would let him direct it. The writer, Peter Radar, wanted to be a director and came back with a script he wrote called Waterworld. Corman liked the script but said, “Are you out of your mind? This would cost us three million...

I remember SotE very well. The whole thing was a major media event by Lucasfilm. There was:

  • PC and N64 game
  • Tie-in novel
  • Comic book series
  • Soundtrack CD
  • A ‘making of’ book

Essentially, everything that would’ve been released to promote a major film but this time, there was no film. I remember the making of book well as there was a picture of the game developers playing the N64 version but their hands were in cardboard boxes. The N64 hadn’t been released yet and so they had to hide the controllers from prying eyes.

My wife really wanted to see them and stayed up until 2am but she says she couldn’t see anything.

realcaseyrollins, to movies

Honestly, I was slightly let down by the experience fidelity-wise. Because of the CGI used, many elements were blurry here and there and because of the composite shots combining real elements with CGI, there were some moments where for example Jar Jar Binks would be blurry but the background would look normal. Also there were these weird pixelated colored dots that'd appear onscreen every five minutes or so.

But hey the audio was fine and the movie is WAY better than I remember.

I haven’t seen this theatrical re-release but I saw it when it opened back in '99. There was no way it could live up to the hype of a brand new Star Wars film after about 16 years.

I bought the DVD and watched it a couple more times and then forgot about it. I bought the Blu-rays in late 2020, and watched the prequel trilogy again for the first time in over a decade.

I think Phantom Menace held up the best, possibly because the healthy amount of practical work. The CGI of the sequels hasn’t held up so well.

My review of the Episode one from 2020.

Sylvester Stallone's Rocky origin story is punching its way onto the silver screen with Peter Farrelly directing (www.joblo.com)

A struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead. Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role. The movie...

The review was very interesting because it sounds like they fucked up by saving money. The whole film has been compressed onto a 66gb disc. In comparison, if you have access to that kaleidoscope service where you can stream the original 4K files, it is a 87gb download. So paramount have compressed the film buy about a third, causing the film to look worse than it should.
