Update on stuck rusty bolts: got all of them off! (lemmy.world)

My solution was: a lot of heat Used my propane torch and to protect brake lines, I covered them with my welders gloves, because I couldn’t find any plumbers mats. Each bolt took around 5-10 minutes of constant heating and then serious impact gun action, but I got there :)

Ricing Related Question

I’ve been ricing my desktop slowly over the years (don’t have a lot of time). I’ve gotten it somewhat down to what I like. I use Archlinux with Open box, polybar, and rofi. I don’t use a desktop environment. My question is what are my options for ricing default applications like dolphin or similar apps with default...

Generally, customization. My understanding is that the origin of its use for describing customization, modding, personalization, etc. comes from the car world where it was used to describe tastelessly modified cars with too many cosmetics, and is most associated with Japanese cars. Folks in various communities where the term has been used to describe customization have occasionally debated whether it has a racist origin (it seems probable that it does, though is now pretty much unrelated to any of that origin), and whether it’s innaproprate to use today as a result

It’s often used in this community to describe thoroughly customizing your Linux or Unix desktop, and carries sort of the same energy in my mind as like pimp your ride, but for your desktop.

Hope this helps!

Great photography honestly, looks gorgeous

I feel like I understand both, though what I miss isn’t the mass produced content, its how much more viable small communities were on reddit. The big communities here on lemmy are way better than the ones on reddit (which universally sucked) but most of the communities I wanted to engage with regularly are kinda niche. Its a double edged sword, but I do think the community feel here is so much nicer, even if it comes at the expense of small communities being absent, or less active

ImgurViewer on f-droid seems like a great way to add native image viewing capabilities to Jerboa! (www.f-droid.org)

Just thought I’d mention it since it improved my browsing experience a bunch. Seems to work great for a variety of different media sites, and means I dont have to wait for Firefox or a custom tab to load just to see a picture gif or video!...

Going NC with my dad after my grandmas funeral

My dad is a classic narcissist. Everyone was put on this earth to serve him. If you don’t do what he wants, you’re a worthless terrible person. It was not uncommon for him to get physically abusive, but not enough to leave suspicious marks. I went low contact with him three years ago when he yelled at my autistic, non-verbal...

[Homemade] Gnocchi with roasted cherry tomato sauce and burrata (lemmy.world)

This turned out really great. We put some cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, garlic, oil, and thyme in a tray on the bbq and let it roast. Added some basil near the end of the roasting time. Then, we crushed that all up into a sauce. We added some fresh chives on top. Super good.

That looks delightful, I really wanna try gnocchi some time

Is there cheese on your pulled pork sandwich? I’d be curious to know where you’re from I’d you’d be comfortable sharing, that’d be sacrilege here in NC, but variations in BBQ traditions are always fascinating.

Great post, makes me want mac and cheese

I like OsmAnd as a client for using open street maps. I hadn’t heard of organic maps though which someone else mentioned- I’ll have to give it a try!

What Cut of the Original Film Do you Prefer? (www.msn.com)

Not a new question for the internet, but curious what thoughts are out there. Myself, I didn’t see the theatrical first. I saw the director’s cut on home video and eventually bought the final cut. Having seen all, I find myself preferring the final cut. Thoughts?

Cris_Color,
@Cris_Color@lemmy.world avatar

I’m inclined to say the director’s cut. I don’t remember the different versions super well, but appreciate the ambiguous ending and related bits that are in the directors cut- I feel like the story works better with them in.

Is this an appropriate place to post physical terrain I’ve built? I don’t see a better suited community and would love to contribute :)

Cris_Color,
@Cris_Color@lemmy.world avatar

I didn’t realize this pinned post was about c/MapMaking and not c/battlemaps, not sure how I missed that. Good to know, and thanks for the reply! Do you mod both subs? Mods aren’t visible from the jerboa app like I’m used to with reddit

Cris_Color,
@Cris_Color@lemmy.world avatar

Gotcha, thanks for the work you’re doing! I look forward to sharing terrain stuff I’m making :)

Cris_Color,

I’m pretty new to it but grew up loving crafts and have been an art nerd my entire life so I’ve really enjoyed it. I didn’t take any progress pics for the last one I made- a crystal cavern, but I’m hoping I’ll remember them for the future. I’ll be sure to share my thoughts on my process!

And yeah that makes sense, I haven’t played at all for quite a while now (I like playing, but I’m not great at roleplay so I find it a bit fatiguing), but the last campaign I was in was in was online. The terrain I’m making right now is big set piece stuff for a friend’s campaign and I’ve really enjoyed getting to be a part of their storytelling process.

I definitely reccomend trying it if you get the chance, I’ve had a blast. Its honestly been a wonderful creative outlet, and a nice excuse to work on something with my hands. djsb

Aw, that sounds lovely! My first experience with D&D was joining my brother playing open games at a local game store and there was always a guy who had his kid with him- the kid was better than most of the adults we played with and it always makes me smile to look back on them having bonding time together ❤️
