Hey everyone, still on the iOS train for the time being, and want to enable 2FA for my Lemmy account. Currently the way this is done, it gives a link and that link default opens in Keychain, however I want to add the token to 2FAS. Anyone know how to do this?
Hello, I try to keep my Debian laptop as private as possible, but for work, I need to use Windows software, so I run a VirtualBox with Windows 11. My PC runs smoothly without any issues, but I need to access my specific hardware USB ports, and it doesn’t recognize them. I read that I need to install the Extension Pack, so I...

Hello lemmy!! I want to degoogle but have a few issues. My main Google uses are drive and docs. Both of which are primarily for school reasons. You know, I kinda dig the innocence of some folks in the States who think there’s one political party that’s more “wicked” than the other. It’s like they still reckon that picking between two not-so-great choices is what they call democracy, right?
I understand what you’re saying, and I do see where you’re coming from. I’m a foreigner who lived in the country for a while, and I’m passionate about following both US and global political news. I can assure you that on the larger spectrum, they are more alike than they are different.
I’m not just talking about international politics where a president is essentially an actor repeating concepts they may not fully understand, but also in terms of domestic affairs. The debates they have in the United States may seem profound (healthcare, abortion, student debt), but they often appear to be comfortable discussions. In other words, the primary interest of their politicians is to retain their jobs, and they would never seek to improve the lives of their citizens if it goes against the possibility of maintaining their influence. Ultimately, both parties serve a higher good: preserving the two-party system. They may pass the baton back and forth from time to time, but the game remains the same.
I’m surprised no one has recommended “2FAS” yet. It’s the open-source alternative. The app is primarily designed for mobile, but they also offer a browser extension that you could install on Linux if you wanted to. Personally, I always try to keep my 2FA apps unsynchronized with a desktop PC.
Oh, and you can export your secrets at any time. Not like Authy.

I heard a lot of bad stuff about Brave and their CEO lately and am now unsure if the search engine is any good? Do they censor stuff? Is any data collected? Can it be considered private?...
Yes, I’m familiar with SearXNG, but every time I tried searching for something complex on different instances, I would encounter the following error: “Sorry! we didn’t find any results. Please use another query or search in more categories.” I genuinely appreciate what they’re trying to accomplish with that project, but I’m not in a position to test something if it doesn’t demonstrate the same efficiency as a established product. Let’s say I can’t afford to be a beta tester right now.
To a lesser extent, I had a similar experience with Brave, as its results align more with what I expect from Google (and therefore, StartPage).
DuckDuckGo, when I tried using it as an alternative, never provided me with better results than what StartPage offered. I’d love for it to work for me, but I simply end up spending more time there than on other search engines.

I have been slowly degoogling my life by reducing my use of Google apps and switching to FOSS alternatives. Wow I never ever even consider tutonota over proton, but this is the kind of stupid and simple thing that make so much difference in my book. I don’t want to install Proton in my Google Profile.
