Before I left my last job I was trying to figure out what to teach computational biologists and data scientists about "systems programming". That's not the right word, but I don't know what to use for the weird mix of "what is fork/exec?", "what is a container?", "how do virtual environments work?", "how does HTTPS work?", and other things that I can draw on that they don't know. https://gvwilson.github.io/sys-tutorial/ is a very rough start: if you have suggestions, please file issues in its repo. Sometimes I feel like some programmers never used any software before. If they had they might have realised there are some conventions and standards, usually it is a good idea to do things like other people do. Easier to develop, easier to use. I don't know, these past few weeks I encountered some very very weird stuff trying some vendor software.
