Well some of us. There are a few other anime communities here, so search them out and sub to them all.

What's the full codec and format breakdown of an example problematic file?

Is it something barely supported like 10bit H264? Or perhaps an ass subtitle incompatibility?

Could also just be as simple as bad wifi to the roku.

It's already improving, smaller communities becoming more active, which promotes faster federation across smaller server instances. the big guys are upgrading to faster servers, though I need to stress that people shouldn't all just lump into the big servers, find a local one if you can.

Faceman2K23,
@Faceman2K23@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Yep, if we had a way to migrate users between instances (technically possible, but not implemented) there could possibly even be a way to shuffle users off overloaded servers automatically in the future, like a form of load balancing.

De-federate from instances with loli

Can we get a consensus on whether our community should de-federate with servers that host loli? I personally think we should block them, and if that ends up not being the consensus here then I'll probably sign up on another server. I hope we can all agree to set that boundary though because I like it here and it seems otherwise...

I agree with you technically kinda, but the average person doesn't (and never will) see a difference and trying to explain it just makes it seem to them that you are defending it.

If a normal person sees it and says .. "thats wrong" then it shouldn't be included in a default feed.

Judging by episode names they are hitting some current (ish) topics. whether they can do them well without it coming off as forced or too on-the-nose is yet to be seen.

I kinda want to see a return to the adventures and stories, not the social and political commentary they tried a few times and were a bit hit-and-miss...

I back up everything to my home server… then I run out of money and cross my fingers that it doesn’t fail.

Honestly though my important data is backed up on a couple of places, including a cloud service. 90% of my data is replaceable, so the 10% is easy to keep safe.

I love having an entire live TV channel dedicated to re-runs of old Star Trek episodes

Ok so, I have a little Kodi setup which includes a live tv system hooked up to Pluto so I can grab a bunch of channels for free. Turns out, this includes not one, but two whole channels of just Star Trek!

The first one is mostly TNG and the original series, and the other one ("creatively" called More Star Trek) has mainly Voyager and Deep Space Nine. I like these because I don't even have to think about what episode to watch, and can just enjoy some Star Trek!

The only downside to this is well, ads lol

I use DisqueTV on my Plex Server to do this.

Long way to go for ease of use, but the foundation is SOLID.

Decentralised without crypto-ifying everything. this is the way.

There might be a case for a more sparse content feed. Sure you can subscribe to hundreds of communities across a hundred different servers but you are more in control of the feed. every post is going to be more relevant and you will have more incentive to take part in conversations instead of just refreshing and having a whole new page of crap.

There are some ease of use improvements to be made of course, this is the most users and fastest growth lemmy has ever seen, so there is some learning to be done as it scales.

feels like a modern take on usenet/newsgroups/bbs.

You pick your local server and your chosen feeds and enjoy.

I hope as more small servers start up and die that we don't just end up with a small number of mega size servers though, that goes against the point.

Faceman2K23,
@Faceman2K23@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

Yes, if a new user weren't paying attention they would be caught up by that a lot.

formatting links with /c/community@instance rather than full URLS works on some platforms, but only if the content linked has been federated, otherwise it is out of sync. You then have to know the link was good, the community exists, then do the copy paste into your search to force it to sync, then the link will work for you...

That could be smoothed out with better fed request optimisation. it's particularly poor on smaller instances that haven't federated with much more than the few big servers, or self hosted instances that have to built that from scratch.

I do this pretty often, though usually it's a sentence or line here and there. of course sometimes books are just written that way and the meaning comes later.

It's a bit of an ADHD thing and you get better at reading with purpose as you go. I used to barely take anything in and I can see books in my list that I've read but remember almost nothing about, try to read with conviction, take it in, imagine it as it happens, your comprehension will improve as you go.

I struggle in distracting environments due to ASD pretty much forcing brain to take in everything it hears and tries to process it as it would when someone was talking to me directly. I always read with noise cancelling headphones and ambient music.

When I was getting back into reading as an adult (used to read a lot as a kid but stopped for 20 years) I would read along with audiobooks, that worked wonders for getting into a book that I was struggling with.

Production is ramping up, and bulk orders are being filled again, slowly. so give it a few months and I think we will be getting back to normal at that point.

I don’t mind emojis if they are used properly. just that replying with a block of 100 emojis is spammy. so is replying with a single emoji.

Faceman2K23,
@Faceman2K23@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

If I format a link like this : link it technically works in an instance agnostic way, but you are going to hit a lot of 404s on smaller communities until those communities federate out into the wider network. !memes

What was the push?

Hey all, more question time. What was the "push" that made you set up your servarr instance? For me, my wife is from a different country than I am. We both paid for netflix but due to region lock could never watch anything together without piracy. I realized very quickly that it was a worthless endevour to keep going with the...

I originally set up Sonarr+Radarr just to do file naming and management on my local ripped content as an alternative to filebot and similar programs.

It snowballed from there, now I have a server rack in my garage, a usenet subscription and gigabit internet.
