JaymesRS,

I have family in SD and ND and live in southern MN. That’s just the current rural mentality in the Midwest unfortunately. And SD and ND are 99% rural.

JaymesRS,

I’m sorry to report it appears to be dead.

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I’m sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I’m sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I’m sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it’s been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one...

JaymesRS,

It’s rare, but occasionally you stumble across a book that fundamentally changes the way you think. Ishmael was one of those for me.

JaymesRS,

Is it super cliche and tropey? 100%. Is it still a fun story? Absolutely.

TIL what a fix-up novel is (en.wikipedia.org)

A fix-up (or fixup) is a novel created from several short fiction stories that may or may not have been initially related or previously published. The stories may be edited for consistency, and sometimes new connecting material, such as a frame story or other interstitial narration, is written for the new work....

JaymesRS,

The early books in the The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant series by Drew Hayes are very much like this. It feels very much like someone occasionally journaling a brief adventure they had and I think it pays off in the big picture as you go through the books.
