Also on a serious note, I was ignorant for a long time of the huge disparity in buying power of US citizens vs even Eastern European and it gets worse from there. For example, taking into consideration wages and taxes, buying a game for $60 (or €60-70 I suppose) in a non-EU but bordering the EU Eastern European country is like… out of my ass mental conversion, like an American spending like… $150? Honestly might be even more, I’d have to go check some current prices. That’s why these countries and like Turkey, Arab countries, Russia, etc. all have high piracy rates and it’s just seen as normal there because no one can justify buying media at the same price to US/EU buyers without consideration for local economies. (Some efforts have been made in the last decade or so to even out the disparity but it still exists. Also hardware suffers the same disparity)

The reporter is literally some libbed up “ask both sides!” even when one side is actively doing a clear genocide “neutral” reporter. If you give Israel a chance to have “their side” then you are by definition slanted towards pro-Israeli. There are apparent neo-Nazis in there spouting lines about Hamas being evil, Hamas killing journalists, Hezbollah doing the same, etc.

I don’t even need to bother “defending” Hamas or their allies. I can just say Israel has been objectively shown, uncountable times, to be targeting any journalists who don’t submit to full censorship from the IDF. That means submitting to their “protection” within Gaza, their line of questioning, etc. It means the IDF can say what to film or not. It’s full propaganda-mode censorship.

The difference is, for one, I haven’t heard of a single instance (and there may be some, I don’t know) of Hamas officials or militants or anyone censoring footage coming out from Gaza on the Palestinian side. I would say they’re probably welcoming any such footage since it’s almost always going to expose Israeli lies or Israeli cruelty more than anything Hamas or Palestinians are doing. Btw, under international law, Hamas and Palestinians broadly are permitted to do whatever it takes to resist and throw off the illegal occupation by Israel. So all those rockets that Herr Redditor complains about are permitted. The “TURRUH TUN NAHLS” are permitted. And what isn’t permitted, ever, is a siege and blockade before Oct 7 and a now total one since then by Israel upon lands it illegally occupies still.

And two, stating the obvious, Israel has the full backing of the world military superpower and has all kinds of modern tools to enforce their propaganda machine. From spying/doxxing simple dissenters all the way to direct assassination of individuals and their fucking families. Even if Hamas was engaging in some sort of censorship or slanting of news via journalist manipulation, they lack the reach and devastation that Israel has. As soon as Hamas is leveling the homes of pro-Israeli journalists while their families are sleeping, then I’ll take this ridiculous shit seriously.

I recently read the new book Ryan Grim just put out related to “the squad.” (this is not a plug. It is relevant. Full disclosure I pirated the audiobook and ebook. I don’t care if you buy it. I’ll show you the torrent link I used myself)

He’s a reporter for the Intercept and I’d describe him as a socdem. For those unaware he’s one of the few US journalists who ever pushes back on the ghouls at the press briefings which is what interested me to see his inside-view towards AOC, etc.

So blah blah blah obligatory statements aside, I left that book with, I suppose, better understanding of who AOC is and isn’t. I don’t think she ever intended to be nor wants to be any sort of actual “revolutionary.” She was just a fairly normal person who held generally left-leaning ideals on a bunch of issues, especially compared to most Americans, and was able to beat out a powerful piece of shit right wing democrat in her district.

I don’t know if Grim meant to portray her as naive, or a liar, or too willing to go along to get along. I THINK he’s very sympathetic to her. But the stuff he writes about her in a matter of fact way often made me go “holy shit he wrote this? She won’t be texting him anymore insider shit.” (He references personal texts between himself and various progressive US reps throughout the book)

I left the book disappointed in her but I guess I kinda get it. She never intended to be like Ilhan Omar who legitimately does seem to not give a single fuck. Ironically Pelosi is better friends with Omar, which seems to be for the purpose of driving a wedge between her and the rest of the progressive women in congress. I have no idea why Omar maintains such a relationship unless Ryan’s characterization is inaccurate (always possible). Like, fuck Pelosi. Fuck Jeffries too. He’s an even bigger PoS.

The only reason he ever seems to cite, and again he draws heavily from quotes most of the book, is they don’t want to be mean to the people they work with. Their peers in congress.

I’m not joking. A lot of underlying reasoning seems to be personal like/dislike of individuals and wanting to curry favor with them. A cynical view would lead me to believe that’s only to make sure she doesn’t allow them to be primaried (although this is Jeffries’ job now: and he IS allowing it anyway!).

It does seem that whether she knew it or not (and I’m ok giving her benefit of the doubt) Pelosi and the DNC as a whole has successfully reigned in any sort of leftist electoralism by picking the weakest, least principled progressive and getting her to bend of leadership over and over to dishearten, cause disengagement, whatever else and send the ultimate signal that “it doesn’t matter if you send 100 or 400 members like this to congress. We will break all of them. We are all unprincipled and you cannot win.”

Obviously Pelosi, et al. wouldn’t word it like that. They’d view as like “see! AOC is a team player and she’s benefiting from it and her district too!” Or some sort of BS.

In any case, Grim, I think unknowingly to a large degree, laid out a case for anti-electoralism. He was overly positive (he’s a socdem after all) about the legislation and ideas AOC managed to push. None of it is meaningful ultimately, imo. Is it something? Sure. But if it’s not enough then it doesn’t matter with climate change or genocide in Gaza.

Also the book taught me Josh Gottheimer legitimately needs to be in a supermax prison. He’s a fascist freak. I didn’t know much about this Nazi fuckstick until recent Palestine events, but holy fuck is he disgusting. And these are the people (same party!) that AOC ultimately is ok being friends with or trying to be nice to by voting to explode more children.

I feel like I wrote one of those 7th grader “prove you did the reading” book reports. Fuck.

Two things:

1. if you VPN to Ukraine or various other nations which are deemed “not profitable” or whatever to Twitch/Amazon you will receive NO ads. You don’t even need to VPN all your traffic either. Just the specific URLs that Twitch uses to serve ads (you can google for more info if interested. “TTV PRO LOL” or something along those lines (it’s an addon but the community + devs tell which sites to route) + “self host proxy” will get you get there. I just have my home network setup to forward all their ad domains to Ukraine through a commercial VPN. No ads on all my devices. Particularly useful for Apple and other annoyingly locked down devices)
2. Twitch makes as much profit as Amazon wants it to make.

By this I mean Amazon is a de facto monopoly in a bunch of sectors (or part of a collusion between other corporations. Oligopoly).

Amazon Web Services aka one of my picks for “massively underrated domestic threat to the US” is owned by, obviously, Amazon. It serves as a core backbone at this point for the internet as a whole. Any rational person would assume such power would be held by a government department or at the least be heavily regulated by one… wrong! Because America. Anyway, Amazon owns AWS and Twitch. AWS is clearly going to be Twitch’s biggest expense besides labor.

AWS is free to Twitch. However, Amazon has a vested interest in

1. never saying this (antitrust laws might start hovering) and
2. gaming the numbers as required to appear more or less profitable in order to push certain narratives to achieve certain goals. Perhaps like this upcoming purge.

Twitch steals a fuckload of cash from streamers who, as much hate as they mostly legitimately deserve, are still workers and are being exploited by Amazon (Twitch) who has no right to the bulk of what they skim. They are allowed to do so only because of holding essentially a monopoly in their niche sector.

Google seems complicit in this since they make nearly no attempt to move in on Twitch despite having massive resources. They seem content to be just the VOD guys and let Twitch dominate live streaming. Typical collusion type shit. There may be a better word for it legally, but everyone understands my meaning. “Working together to fuck the public and their workers.”

This isn’t me taking a pro or against stance on Twitch’s output. I don’t care that much. I am anti Amazon though and anti corporations using manipulation of accounting figures to steal more from workers. At the end of the day, the workers who keep Twitch running probably individually suck shit. Most of the streamers on Twitch are reactionary and suck shit. I’m still going to call out Amazon’s bullshit here though. Mostly because it’s an obvious thing to people who know literally anything about how accounting works for corporations (ie it’s all fake and lies), but also because redditor-types will gobble up the official Amazon narrative. if someone made a multi-part series that sought to “proportionately” display death and destruction done to Palestinians and Israelis (based only on numbers of dead) they could produce a 10 part, one hour per episode series and spend only 30 mins on Israeli deaths and the other 9.5/10 hrs on Palestinian deaths. and that’s just as of right now. And also only based on deaths not accounting for missing, injured, total destruction of Gaza making it unliveable, etc. That ratio is only going to worsen and perhaps in the end the “balance of suffering” will make it only 15 mins of a 10 hour series on just the events of Oct 7 and going forward. ignoring the 75 years which would keep pushing that ratio down to being generous to even give Israelis a 1 minute fast-mention of violence done to them and basically a solid 10 hours explaining what the Israelis did to the Palestinians.

I know that’s a somewhat silly way to look at it, but this project, when framed in context, is beyond silly. It’s grotesque. He plans to make a documentary to explain and forgive the crimes of Israel and condemn the population which has been completely victimized for basically a century.

I’m not exaggerating when I say it would be like someone making a film about the Nazis and how the mean Soviets and western allies beat them up for the small crime of wanting an Aryan homeland. Or something like that. Of course films like this exist (Birth of a Nation?) and most people (rightfully) view them as gross and for what they are… apologia for horrific behavior. They’re seen now days, separated by time, that way anyway.

It’s probably too much of a stretch, but, fuck it. Spielberg is known for a ton of good movies including Schindler’s List. That movie has always sat a tad bit uneasy with me because although it depicts (as far as I’m aware) a pretty much accurate story, he also throws in a dash of Zionism that even when I was younger, and didn’t know what Israel even was, I was like “wait why the fuck is this random country honoring this guy?” Spielberg fucking tied the story back into “and Schindler saved all those Jews and some went to Israel so you should support Israel (implied) just like Oskar would have wanted. Don’t they deserve a “homeland?””

That shit has been stewing in my brain on a low simmer for like 20 years now. I think I finally found the words to express how I felt when I first watched that movie. I remember it being extremely heart wrenching, he definitely displays the absolute disregard that Nazis had for humanity. All other shit aside, the “rules of war” that the international community agrees on says that any person has a right to defend themselves from attackers in their own nation. The UN and the world recognizes Israel as a sovereign nation, of course.

However, any person (ANY person) who chooses to defend their (legal) home and picks up arms against the perceived invading force (Israelis vs Hamas militants here) goes from the designation of civilian ie illegal to kill (under the law) to a legal combatant at that time (thus legal to kill). It doesn’t matter if they were an IDF veteran, a US military vet, never touched a gun in their lives, doesn’t matter.

Per the law, for whatever it matters, and liberals proclaim to LOVE laws, if you are invaded and pick up a gun and defend yourself and are shot dead by the invaders you were a legal combatant for them to kill. If you do not pick up arms and are killed you were a civilian and it’s a war crime to kill you. There are also laws regarding the detention of combatants vs civilians. It’s legal to take POWs, but they must be treated in certain ways, all that stuff.

This was a bit of a tangent, but, people (Israelis mostly) seem to be under the impression of “but they were under attack and picked up a rifle and shot back! But they were a civilian!” No. It’s either or.

Also, every single person killed by Israel inside of Gaza is a war crime under international law since it is illegal to kill people in an occupied territory. There isn’t some exception for “but Kkkkhhhhamas!” It is legal, per the law, for them to kill and detain those who cross the legally recognized border but it is illegal to pursue them and kill them and especially obviously super duper illegal to indiscriminately carpet bomb highly populated areas, cut off water and food and medical supplies, etc.

Every single thing Israel has done since Oct 7 beyond killing the Hamas soldiers who were inside of Israel (as legally defined) has been a war crime varying from illegally killing militants in their (illegally) occupied territories of Gaza and West Bank all the way to bombing hospitals with no justification, starving civilians, bombing civilians, etc.

Even within the most purely liberalized, “international rule based law and order” scope of observation of the current conflict and even starting only on Oct 7, Israeli leadership, the IDF broadly, many of the civilian population, and media are all war criminals that should immediately be apprehended and put before the ICC to face justice. In addition, this includes foreign aiders and abetters to all of the above mentioned crimes which includes president Biden, VP Harris, the entirety of Congress (minus Tlaib (maybe a few others like Omar)), and any American media personalities who uncritically repeated Israeli lies without pushback or questions thus enabling the ethnic cleansing and genocide to continue. And also non-governmental persons and organizations such as the ADL (Greenblatt specifically), AIPAC (the entire thing), etc.

If there were any semblance of justice in this world all those directly implicated such as soldiers, their officers, and the entire Israeli government basically, would be hanged for the war crimes. The complicit leaders of the US and EU countries would face possible execution, but at the very least life in prison, no chance of parole ever. Complicit media figures would also face execution (the Nazi propagandist Julies Streicher (Der Stürmer) was hanged for his complicity in the Holocaust) or at the least life in prison. Others could receive appropriate sentencing relative to their involvement and complicity in crimes.

It’s quite amazing to see liberals sitting around debating whatever dumb shit they talk about when it’s all quite simple. War crimes were committed per the existing laws. Laws which, btw, the US and allies specifically made hard to violate for themselves and yet Israel managed to slam that bar into the fucking ground at every single step of the way.

This isn’t even including the decades before Oct 7 and Israel’s war crimes. Nor all the war crimes the US has committed and never faced a single bit of justice for.

(Also yes I’m of the “invasion of the Hague” act. Although it’s quite literally insane to think the US would act on that, it also doesn’t mean the US just gets away with war crimes forever. That’s moronic. It also doesn’t mean Israelis can’t face prosecution since no such “law” exists there (maybe Bibi will push one through so he can be just like Daddy America))
