As an European I’ve never seen a diverging diamond (though I’ve been in the US a few times) and boy they look scary to drive across. I know you just have to drive straight, but that criss-cross interchange looks scary.

Also: how big is that parking lot? It reminds me of those Simpson’s gags were the family have to park so far away they can’t even see the location they came to visit.

Anche qui su Lemmy possono scrivere gli utenti di Mastodon, ma anche quelli di Friendica, Kbin e altre piattaforme che sfruttano il protocollo ActivityPub. Reddit invece è “chiuso” (almeno per ora) e da reddit si può interagire solo con reddit. Altre informazioni base le trovi in questo articolo.

ActivityPub è un protocollo, non ci si può iscrivere. Tecnicamente tu con questo account puoi navigare in tutto il fediverso collegato a feddit.it, quindi puoi commentare post su istanze Mastodon, Friendica, Pixelfed, ecc. È un po’ complicato, perché devi cercarti bene gli utenti sulle istanze e non tutte le interfacce sono comode, però si può fare.

I’m from Italy and the first time we had a family vacation in the US we were honked a lot because we would stop at red lights. Only after 3 days we discovered that there’s the “turn-on-red” rule and we were confused: if it’s red, why can you turn?

In Italy (but I guess in all Europe works like this) we have a different approach on these situations: if the driver is at a traffic light and can make a turn, but it could be unsafe, the light turns into a blinking yellow light, so that the driver know that it must check well before going on.

I don’t see it that way: when you’re merging you’re going in the same direction of the traffic you’re trying to merge into. At a traffic -light-controlled intersection most of the time you’re perpendicular or at an uncomfortable angle.

So you’re saying it yourself: it’s not like merging. Moreover, at T-intersections there might be some crosswalk, so it’s not really true that you yield for one.

Penso che sia perché su Mastodon si rischierebbe di “impallare” le varie timeline se si postassero 4/5+ post tutti insieme, dato che le timeline sono in ordine cronologico. Su X (dove comunque non era presente fin dall’inizio) e Threads è l’algoritmo a farla da padrona e quindi si può impostare per mostrare in evidenza solo il primo nelle timeline e poi quelli con più interazioni.

Ah, intendevi alternative del fediverso, ho frainteso. Il fatto è che le alternative sono, in buona parte, diverse da Mastodon.

Sarò sincero: non conoscevo Pleroma quindi ho fatto qualche ricerca. Effettivamente sono simili (da che ho capito, Pleroma ha delle funzioni in più, anche se non ho capito quali), quindi non so perché Mastodon sia preferito.

Che sia monopolio non mi pare, è sicuramente molto diffuso, ma non è l’unico (considerato che anche lemmy è abbastanza diffuso e si stanno allargando anche le istanze pixelfed). È vero è che Pleroma e Mastodon fanno praticamente le stesse cose e il conflitto lì c’è, ma è, credo, una semplice questione di comodità di gestione. Inoltre, il concetto di Fediverso è piuttosto “complicato” perché è diverso da come siamo (parlo di quelli che vengono dai social “famosi”) abituati a pensare ai social network: chiusi in sé stessi e, soprattutto, in cui la piattaforma coincide con il software. Capisco benissimo il tuo punto: Mastodon non è il Fediverso, ma è un concetto che ai neofiti sfugge.

TomTom has been making a lot of challenges on MapRoulette for quite some time now, so if it’s just bringing in money that’s not too bad. I think the only way they can fuck it up will be to restrict challenge creation to TomTom employee, but since they haven’t bought MapRoulette (yet) I don’t see that happening now.
