Some progress to get Runestone to show Breakpoint markers.

Since I am going behind Runestone's back, I can't quite change the font color for the line number, and that looks ugly.

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@sharkjacobs very, yes :-). But it is worth considering this approach

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

Mhm, maybe I should add built-in support for breakpoint flags directly to Runestone. That way I could make the text label be aware, and draw with the right color.

A small patch to maintain, but I think it might be worth it.

UI-wise, I am struggling with that tab bar at the top.

Godot has an unusual set of tabs at the top that map to scenes, but the actual view is controlled by the top-level items.

I am not sure what to do about those two tab bars.

Migueldeicaza,

@bigzaphod You are always very kind!

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@danirabbit Very unlikely, as it is rewritten in SwiftUI, which does not really work with Godot.

But I hope that once people can try it out, this will get an ongoing conversation about how to change some idioms in Godot. Better to do that with a real proposal than musing on the mailing list for days.

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@andokai Oh thank you! These are lovely!

My big challenge is the very strange idiom that Godot has with the top-level 3D/2D/Script selector that affects the contents of the tabs below.

It is almost like those 3 buttons should go inside those tabs. I don't quite understand the user model they have.

@alexito4 it’s good to know I am not alone thinking about this

@palmin am I wrong or using your working copy “external” repository would work as a way of accessing files and pushing to GitHub in my Godot port?

Is there something I might not be understanding that might prevent that?

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@palmin another question, I wonder if I could call out to working copy with a url handler to configure this - so users don’t have to do it.

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@palmin I think the user interaction is fine, the metadata would be “please put the .git in the directory the user chooses”

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@palmin I am not sure about what that would entail exactly; but Godot directories have a “project.godot” file in the top directory.

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@palmin sadly, not yet. I am hoping in a few more weeks.

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@palmin I might, but give me a couple of weeks.

For now, this just took a big weight off my shoulders.

I just finished an exploration on file coordinator, and I just don't think I can make it work any time soon.

I should have explored the "Can working copy open a folder" option much earlier.

@palmin @simsaens OMG that is beautiful! Thank you Anders!

Good morning fellow Strict Concurrency lovers.

Rethought my model and we are at 38 warnings down from 30,000.

@Arcticulate January was brutal, with everyone having their goals set for the new year, I was kicked down, and had to climb back up to Diamond.

This is my second Swift / SwiftUI app. It's going a lot smoother than the first. Funnily enough!

Migueldeicaza,
@Migueldeicaza@mastodon.social avatar

@jamesrandall @twith2sugars SwiftUI is a really interesting model/design principle.

SwiftGodot is not really trying to create such a model, but instead it is trying to be a system to let you use Swift with Godot.

So some of the joy and wonder of SwiftUI is not present there.

Update on SwiftGodot and strict concurrency.

The easy stuff is gone, but the remaining stuff is hard. I could brute force my way to the end, but goal is not to just have it build, I want to make sure that my users can rely on the guarantees and be able to benefit from this additional level of safety.

So the next step will take some time to complete, as many of these will require some research into some Godot features.

@airspeedswift Ok, I downloaded it, and it fails with internal errors, where should I report these?

You can’t beat this 1:35 minute crash course on how our economy works. It voodoo, not a dark art, not medieval knowledge. Just plain and accessible economics.

This course should be taught in high schools.

You can then nicely progress to various books and textbooks if you want.

@agocke but we are not in a world of full resource utilization.

The supply chain reasons are things like “containers are empty on the wrong ports”for example.

The interest rate changes didn’t fix the root problem. It ended up being government intervention printing money, but without the fiscal incentives and policies to go with it, so it ended being inflationary.

@agocke btw when you are done with the movie, Pavlina, the Job Guarantee proponent, just wrote a great piece today:

@agocke barely, if you read that then the next step are the more advanced books.

Although a refresher might not hurt.
