The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was when McDonald's gave out those coupons for free sundaes when they totally knew their stupid ice cream machine was going to be down.

Songs I listened to so much as Napster’d 128kbps MP3s I still hear phantom compression sizzle:

  • Love Will Tear Us Apart
  • Dreams by the Cranberries
  • In Between Days

I’m glad HW 3 made it into being. I’m a bit sad it was over so quickly though. I do have some awesome physical models and whatnot that can in the physical edition at least.

On my second workday medicated. One of the best and surprising parts is confidence and trust in what I've already done.

Before, in essence I couldn't trust that my intent was what I actually managed to do.

I don't have to double check myself over and over. I just remember, and it's there. The live thoughts of tasks I performed still exist in my head and are accessible in moments.

Sofa 4.0 by @shawn is an incredible update.

I've started using it a while back to consolidate all my videogame backlog in it, and the addition of smart lists with filters is a game changer for power users.

@viticci Nice, it has a lifetime subscription option as well.

@Cara thank you for making me chuckle and smile this morning. I have never heard a sleepover narrated quite like that. 😂

It’s such a joy that you can finally use the Delta emulator on iOS without extra work.

I’ve not played Tetris since I was a preteen and this score would have displeased my younger self. It doesn’t matter since I was grinning like a fool the whole time.

It’s great to relive parts of your life where you were just enjoying the moment!

I wish people would stop calling those toxic self-identified “gamers” as gamers because it’s clear they don’t even like video games.

If they did, they would actually play video games instead of hating on the developers who make them and harassing their families.

Call these people for what they are: right wing extremists. And they’re doing what right wing extremists have always done, which is attack creators that make art and culture.

gatewayy,
@gatewayy@mastodon.gatewayy.net avatar

@atomicpoet I’ll stay over here happily playing through my various games. 😅

I think I've narrowed down my small backpack search to the Aer Go Pack 2, Aer Pro Pack Slim, and the Fjallraven Ulvo. Any opinions, particularly around how small they pack and how well they protect your laptop, gimme 😛

gatewayy,
@gatewayy@mastodon.gatewayy.net avatar

@christianselig the smallest bag I have current is this one: https://www.sfbags.com/collections/bags/products/essential-laptop-backpack. I absolutely love it and use it daily.

gatewayy,
@gatewayy@mastodon.gatewayy.net avatar

@christianselig No, it is probably not the flattest bag available. I have never bought specifically with flat packing in mind. I was going for protection of my laptop along with weight and efficient use of space when I purchased it.

This is a really interesting piece on a viral part of the Internet's backbone. I used to work for an ISP and I recall having to call angry customers in Hawaii about their indefinite service interuption while we waiting for a cable repair ship to be sent.

Does anyone have an idea of what library/framework/whatever Windows Live Messenger is using? I know a lot of applications in that era used custom made user interfaces, but I don't know what frameworks they are using.

I know the Windows API is not flexible enough to do that kind of stuff by itself.

gatewayy,
@gatewayy@mastodon.gatewayy.net avatar

@enigmatico it used the .Net framework of that era if I recall correctly.

I know ow they used to offer a stand alone application (they might still) that you could purchase that allowed Enterprise customers to used their Office GUI and add backend code. I see it all the time in applications like Epic used by the hospital system for all of my doctors. I can’t remember what the heck it was called.

Is this what you’re after, or am I misunderstanding? 😎

gatewayy,
@gatewayy@mastodon.gatewayy.net avatar

@enigmatico

I think it was a GUI for creating Ribbon/Windows Presentation Foundation apps from like ‘07 or so?

gatewayy,
@gatewayy@mastodon.gatewayy.net avatar

@enigmatico Gotcha, it's hard to remember that far back this early in the morning. I have not thought about VC++ in ages. XD

I hope you are able to hunt down what you are after.

When the social media conceptualized in the late 2000s, new services started to pop up every other week. Some of them were even popular. I remember being registered to over 160 different social media services. Jaiku, Qaiku, Bebo, Ello, Tsu, Path, PicPlz etc… there were so many. Then they died one by one after Facebook and Instagram took over.

Some people who remember this are saying the same is happening to Mastodon, Pixelfed and Loops. But they clearly do not understand the concept or interoperability and the social web, Fediverse, that is. They think of these platforms as a singlular, centralized services and they are using the commercial mindset.

The Fediverse will last. It will prosper. And it has already. That is what I sincerely believe. Since 2022 nothing has proven otherwise. I like the direction this is heading to.

gatewayy,
@gatewayy@mastodon.gatewayy.net avatar

@rolle I miss those days fairly often. It felt like a digital adventure every time a new service appeared.
