Oh sure, but the comic says “most hectic chemical engineer workday”.
In the article Lowe describes a spill incident:
It burned its way through a foot of concrete floor and chewed up another meter of sand and gravel beneath, completing a day that I’m sure no one involved ever forgot. That process, I should add, would necessarily have been accompanied by copious amounts of horribly toxic and corrosive by-products: it’s bad enough when your reagent ignites wet sand, but the clouds of hot hydrofluoric acid are your special door prize if you’re foolhardy enough to hang around and watch the fireworks.
I have an 11th gen Framework mainboard which I would like to repurpose as a server. Unfortunately, (unless I do some super janky stuff) I can only connect 1 drive to it over M.2 and any additional ones must be over USB....
This will not work unless the mainboard is handling the RAID control in firmware. If you are doing software RAID then the OS must boot before the array can be accessed.
If you just want to set up a NAS, you can get a used PowerEdge tower for very little money, and it will work a lot better than what you have planned.
China has begun its second day of military drills targeting Taiwan, in what it says is punishment for “separatist acts” after the inauguration of its new president on Monday....
I understand your point of view and I agree that an invasion of Taiwan doesn’t make a lot of practical sense, but I think you should also keep in mind the brutality China has demonstrated in Hong Kong. I don’t think the PRC is as concerned with consequences as they are with getting what they want, and with appearing to be in control. Continued Taiwanese independence makes them look weak.
Nothing triggers authoritarianism quite like defiance.
Has it been proven to happen on Windows 11? Not that I can point to specifically. 11 hasn’t been in general use long enough to see a real pattern of behavior.
I was a mixed Windows and Linux user through the full life cycle of the Cortana implementation. The number of times they changed or moved Cortana related settings through the years was just ridiculous. It finally came down to having to manually change registry settings to keep it from scanning your files and messing with basic local search, and even if you did that you had to make sure the registry values were still set after version updates because they would get unset without warning.
I have no trust left for Microsoft, only suspicion.
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is historically significant for many reasons: it was the first Star Wars movie in nearly 16 years, the last Star Wars movie shot on film, and a polarizing, pulpy entry in the storied space fantasy franchise. It debuted on May 19, 1999, 25 years ago almost to the day, and earned over $1...
The United States on Monday said it had been unable, due largely to logistical reasons, to accept an Iranian request for assistance following a helicopter crash over the weekend that killed President Ebrahim Raisi, as Washington offered its condolences....
Hmm, the closest US asset would probably be the Black Hawk group stationed at Harir Air Base in Iraq, which is ~450km from the crash area. That should be within the operating range *with wingtip tanks. If they didn’t have the external fuel tanks ready to equip, or if they just didn’t have a crew available (because it’s the weekend) then obviously they couldn’t make it.
It’s also entirely possible that the US military wanted some official assurance that any units crossing the border would be treated as friendlies (especially in current context), and that just didn’t happen fast enough to participate in the search & rescue.
So if we could completely annihilate a mass equivalent to the Moon with an equal mass of antimatter and capture all of the energy with no losses to heat and without ripping the device apart, that would work?
It’s such a train wreck, and it must have been obvious to a lot of the people working on it that it was going to be a train wreck.
I can really only imagine that this was the product of a corporate yes-man culture, where critical voices get sidelined or eliminated and the solution to every problem is to just throw money at it (but not too much money, just enough to make it look passable).
Compressions force the blood flow. If you can keep some blood flow through the brain, almost everything else is survivable/fixable. Compressions are 100% vital. Brain tissue dies real quick without blood flow.
Also if you’re doing it right it is fucking exhausting manual labor so switch out every minute if you have another person available. And you will probably break some ribs, that’s just how it is.
The shallower your incline is, the more air you have to fight through post-launch to get to orbit, during which you’re losing velocity. And to get into low-earth orbit you have to reach 28000 kph (17000 mph) because it’s not so much about going up as it is about going really fast.
So you need to leave the end of the gun going fast enough to lose speed to air resistance and still reach and maintain orbit. I haven’t attempted the math, but it seems like your vehicle would burst into flame going that speed in the atmosphere.
