Nawor3565,

Even then, anyone can use inspect element to make it look like it says whatever you want.

Nawor3565,

Probably not. If a virus is too deadly, it kills its hosts before it can spread. That’s why SARS didn’t turn into a pandemic.

Did the premise of an entity approaching you only when it's not being viewed originate with Doctor Who's Weeping Angels?

The Weeping Angels apparently originated with Steven Moffat seeing a statue of a weeping angel in a structure in a cemetery and returning later to find out it was gone. At least according to this RadioTimes article. They first appeared in 2007 in the episode Blink....

Nawor3565,

Funny enough, a number of years ago a giant 4chan archive surfaced which included a lot of the very first SCP posts that had been lost. It actually confirmed that 173 was posted after Blink aired, meaning it was almost certainly inspired by the episode. Not that it makes the SCP worse, but it’s some interesting lore.

Nawor3565,

Perhaps, but Nintendo also seems happy to let people forget that the Wii U ever existed. Also, they seem to not care as much about non-piracy/CFW releated hardware mods- take the 3DS capture card as an example, AFAIK it was never targeted by Nintendo since it very clearly was not meant to facilitate piracy.

Keurig's new K-Rounds coffee pods are plastic-free and could finally make single-serve coffee-making sustainable (www.techradar.com)

This is quite exciting in that it removes plastic waste. I see no reason why different companies can’t make different shape ones to maintain their lock-in. I expect a knock-off market to pop-up, but that exists with plastic pods too. It’s a step in the right direction at least.

Nawor3565,

This might be a really stupid question, but if you’re going to use reusable pods, why not just… Use a classic Mr. Coffee-style coffee maker that has been around for decades?

Nawor3565,

They don’t really need to associate it with a specific person (although I’m sure they’d love to)- they can get plenty of data just within the context of what a single person buys in their store.

Nawor3565,

Funny enough, I don’t think Wario and Waluigi are ever said to be siblings. Waluigi just kinda… showed up to a tennis match one day and then stuck around.

Nawor3565,

You took too much. That can happen with any drug when you don’t have a tolerance built up and take too large of a dose.

Of all the drugs you could take to help with autism symptoms, nicotine is one of the worst. Any benefits it might have are nothing compared to just how chemically addictive it is. There are many, many better options for helping with anxiety, both prescription and “experimental”. I’d really advise against trying nicotine again, it really isn’t worth it.

Nawor3565,

What would cause him to lose my support? Having a better alternative that actually has a chance at winning.

Nawor3565,

Microwaves will not irradiate or otherwise damage your food. They’ll make it chewy or soggy sometimes, but that’s about it.

Nawor3565,

The funny thing is that standard human operating temperature is much closer to the coldest you can get than to the hottest. Absolute zero, when all thermal motion stops and it’s literally impossible to get any colder by definition, is only -273.15°C. We can reach it fairly easily, and we know that weird stuff does happen at low temperatures such as Bose-Einstein Condensates, but the universe really can’t cool a few orders of magnitude- there isn’t that much more cooling for it to do.

Nawor3565,

I'm curious, what happens if you try using a "portable" version of FF? It should be completely self-contained, so if it works, you would know it's probably some weird remnants left over from an old installation messing with things.

I have been stalked and harassed for at least 11 years

When someone broke into my house, ransacked it, and left, I thought it was my husband. We were separated in 2013, and had agreed to live apart, and even to date other people. I had a restraining order against him, because he physically abused me. We reconciled, and he told me he didn’t break into the house. No one seemed to...

Nawor3565,

Sorry to say, that but that sort of thing doesn’t really exist. Not on iPhone and not on Android. If they did somehow manage to hack your phone, it would not show up on the screen in a visible way, it would happen in the background without your knowledge.

I know this isn’t what you want to hear, but I really think you may want to seek medical help for schizophrenia. I mean, what do you have to lose? At best, it could solve all of this, and at worst, you’ve wasted some time and are back to square one.

Nawor3565,

This post is on the front page of Lemmy when sorting by hot, just fyi (that’s how I found it). Lemmy is a small forum so it doesn’t take much to get to the front page.

Nawor3565,

BlueStacks is for emulating an android phone on a PC. It’s not a remote desktop app, and regardless such apps can’t be used to control iPhones due to the way iOS sandboxes applications from the system.

Either way, all such apps need to have connections approved by hand on the device they’re connecting to. I think Occam’s Razor applies here- is there really a world-class hacker breaking into your phone using crappy, easy-to-spot remote desktop software? Or is there a simpler explanation?

A new NES emulator was briefly available on the Apple App Store (www.theverge.com)

Now, clicking on a link to Bimmy shows “This app is currently not available in your country or region.” This time, it wasn’t Apple that removed it but the developer. Over on MacRumors’ forums, the developer said it pulled the app “out of fear.” “No one pressured me to, but I got more nervous about it as the day...

Nawor3565,

I highly doubt it. The NES has been completely reverse engineered for decades, there really isn’t any reason to use proprietary code for an emulator for it.

Nawor3565,

Basically the scheme from Office Space

Nawor3565,

Sync works too! This is what I do. Unfortunately it’s only a matter of time before reddit/imgur/some other site changes something and the app breaks, but for now the old reddit apps still seem to all be working okay.

Nawor3565,

That’s true, but this is also ensuring that people can vet whatever they get out of an AI and make sure it isn’t just hallucinated garbage

Nawor3565,

One thing to keep in mind: if someone gave you a 5.25" floppy disk with this type of data on it, even if the data was perfectly readable, would you have any way to do it? You’d need to hunt down someone whos into retro technology and hope you can figure out how to decode the information. The format itself became obsolete, so even if the data would theoretically be accessible, the means to access said data may not be.

Point is, what are the chances that CD drives will be around in hundreds of years outside of a museum or personal collection? They’re already becoming more and more uncommon after only a couple decades. But there really isn’t a great solution to this, especially when it comes to video, because you can’t just print it out.

Side note, are you sure that CD Golds are more durable than M-Disk?

Nawor3565,

It was a settlement. The devs decided, for reasons that are not public, that it would be easier to just pay Nintendo some money and take down the emulator than to fight them in court. It’s very possible (even likely) that they figured it would be more expensive to fight Nintendo’s lawyers than to just pay a fixed amount up front.

Nawor3565,

They don’t actually provide decryption keys, the user has to either extract them from their own Switch or find them elsewhere online. However, it could be argued by Nintendo that using an unreleased game ROM for testing proves that the devs themselves were guilty of piracy, and were therefore somehow condoning the use of their emulator for piracy.

Either way, we won’t know how well Nintendo’s arguments would have held up in court, because the devs settled rather than fight it out.

Can I use the HDD from my laptop in a self-built PC?

Laptop battery recently died, and I’m planning a new PC build anyway, so I’m wondering: can I just remove the HDD from my laptop and connect it to the motherboard? Would I need any extra parts or hardware? I’m guessing no, but it’s hard to research on my phone. Any guidance is appreciated :) thanks!

Nawor3565,

If you were really lazy, you could also just cover the bottom circuit board of the drive with some electrical tape and just balance it on the jungle of wires running throughout the case.

Not that I would have any experience doing that…

Nawor3565,

Pretty much every food regulatory agency in the world has deemed aspartame safe. There were some worrying studies all the way back in the '70’s, but those were almost certainly bogus due to conflicts of interest with the sugar industry. It’s just as safe as MSG, which I personally believe people get so worked up over just because it has a “scary-sounding” chemical name.

Nawor3565,

Yeah, as many bugs as cars kill, there’s no way they have such a huge effect on their population. Pesticides and loss of habitat are mostly to blame.
