I've been using my de-Googled GrapheneOS "phone" (no SIM card) around the house.
What it revealed to me is how easily I defaulted to proprietary Google products throughout my Android experience, even though they are completely at odds with my values. Without the convenience of apps baked into the OS by the same manufacturer, I suddenly want replacements for all my Google things. I'm even reevaluating trivial things like a weather forecast widget, where I previously said "good enough" & moved on.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller are you using microg services and fdroid for apps? i caved with my new phone and installed some gapps because microg gps sucks but still using lineageos

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller ahh see there really isnt anything i want from the google playstore besides spotify and plantNet which i side loaded the apk which i guess that could have done for me. bonus of not having the google store, i cant install all the spyware my work wants on my personal phone like email and alert apps. Thankfully they are also too cheap to give me a work phone.

In a seminar on Generative AI. The first speaker says he’s an Elon Musk fanboy. Which pretty much says all you need to know about Generative AI.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@kyleejohnson should have asked for a refund and walked out

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@kyleejohnson where is my surge pricing for my wages? Oh you want an expedited usecase? That will be 3x the weekly pay

I cannot stress this enough. Do NOT, under any circumstance, have anything related to the security of your home attached to a cloud service. You're one breach away from everyone seeing your stuff or getting into your home. I do a lot of home automation (all local, no cloud), but for my doors, keys are the best option.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@kyleejohnson this sounds like a complete bullshit excuse
"This client library received unprecedented load conditions caused by devices coming back online all at once. As a result of increased demand, it mixed up device ID and user ID mapping and connected some data to incorrect accounts."

So, Lions-Bills Super Bowl, who says no?

@nfl

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@stumblewyk @nfl the only game that somehow both teams lost

I am glad that now having the ability to make public domain steamboat willie hentai somehow fixed all the completely broke IP laws

Notactuallyfromphilly,

this meme brought to you by a memer complaining about memers doing nothing, all while also doing nothing.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller I mean nothing changed. It just rolled into public domain and this is coming from someone when given the opportunity to pick my papers topic, it would always be about how graham spanier was a bastard or how the school is screwed students because they are in bed with the riaa/mpaa.

Thankfully my friend showed me that law school is a scam unless you are top of your class or go somewhere that costs too many 0s. I do kind of wonder what would have happened if into ip law instead.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller i had a friend that was a year an a half ahead of me that dropped out of i believe pepperdine law because he said it wasn't worth it after a year. Honestly, he was the reason I went back for my 2nd degree.

welp time it find a new credit union after the one i currently have shit the fucking bed on security. Obvious fraudulent use of it after the card sat unused in my desk draw for 5 years too.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller members1st processed an unauthorized charge on my debit card that hasn't been used since at least jan 1 2020. It was put in yesterday and I noticed it because I was paying bills. I called their fraud line yesterday about it and they confirmed it was fraud and closed the card that has been sitting my my desk drawer for the last 5.5 years. This morning i checked and it was posted. They didn't detect it, they didnt notify me of it, and then they processed it after flagging

@alexhillman is jawns.club one of the servers that are preemptively blocking threads, or will those users be allowed to federate?

Yoo we are in the fetterman republican heel turn timeline. An actual progressive or better yet an actual socialist should primary this clown in 2028. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/-not-progressive-fetterman-breaks-left-israel-immigration-rcna129747

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller naw fuck him for even considering making a deal with fascists. I guess some of the shit i've head about him is the real him.

Notactuallyfromphilly, to random

With the whole threads thing, is there an official statement about federating with it for this instance?

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller I asked another instance i'm on this and the admins said they wont even be able to federate if they wanted due to volume. Which is a stance I didn't even think about

I wonder how hard it would be to win the local sheriff and then just refuse to do my job

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@stumblewyk Moms for liberty get elected to school board with an vocal, open, and straight forward anti education stance. Obstructionism is literally a cornerstone of the republican playbook.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@stumblewyk also seeing the demographic and just looking at foreclousre signs, I would think refusing to issue evictions would be pretty popular. Look I personally might be ACAB, but this is "fiscal responsibility". Why should the police waste YOUR tax money of evicting peoples grandparents that have lived in the house since it was built? Why do they need new patrol cars when they got new ones in 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022? Also i would force them to add back patrol car 1312 since it was skipped

I want a ground source to provide heating and cooling to my rowhome. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_source_heat_pump

"The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has called ground source heat pumps the most energy-efficient, environmentally clean, and cost-effective space conditioning systems available."

Can I afford the up-front cost? Hard to know, unless I can find an installer willing to drill boreholes on my property, so I can get a quote. (Ideally 2 to compare.)

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller I looked into getting geothermal when the ac shit the bed the first 100 degree day after buying the house. I had 2 places saying they would have to dig the whole backyard up if they could even do it. I have a sub 10k sqft lot too. I went with a 5 stage normal heat pump and with a 70+ year old leaky as fuck house it does a pretty good job of heating and cooling

I took a chance on this hemp seed oil. It's stinky when you cook with it!

I made popcorn with pure and it was unpleasantly stinky. I was able to eat it, but I didn't enjoy it.

Next I tried making popcorn with half olive oil and half hemp oil, and that came out much better. It still was stinky while popping, which is sad since the scent of popping is part of the experience. But once I opened the window to let the smell out, the popcorn tasted great, the olive oil dominated the flavor.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller @Maggie is it because the oil cant take heat or is it just because its dank? Like how is it with like a cold couscous salad?

So my wife was talking to her mom on the phone, and she got me because she forgot who Tim Wakefield was. We got talking and apparently she claims that old astroturf gives you rare cancers and then listed an absolute slew of players including 6 phillies. Is this common knowledge? I have never heard of this.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller i hate astroturf before this but now I'm having a breakdown because my school had the shredded tire fill at my elementary school. Pretty fucked up how schools install them too

I got both the COVID vaccine and flu vaccine at Pelham Pharmacy, during their walk-in hours. https://pelhamrx.com/

I got one shot in each arm, figuring I'd like to know which shot was the source of any complaints. The flu shot in my right arm is a nothingburger, it feels fine. The covid shot in my left arm is pretty sore, but doesn't bother me much unless I try to raise that arm or pick things up with it.

Some patients at the pharmacy were wearing masks, but no staff. Do better, y'all.

Notactuallyfromphilly,

@skyfaller shit I'm scheduled for both in 2 weeks
