Some people are just insane… That’s why they exist.

What is the point of paying for a VNC client when there are 100 other free VNC clients?

Convectrix. Death by 1000 cuts. Need I say more?

You are literally just describing fedora. So yeah, give that a try.

Go on ebay or your local 2nd hand market and search “mini PC” or “Office computer”…

I’ve commented this before and I’ll do it again. DO NOT try to install ROCm/HIP, it’s a nightmare. AMD provides preconfigured docker containers with it already setup. Download one of them and do whatever you need to do on that.

What tips or resources would you recommend to someone who knows about Linux and wants to self-host, but has no experience self-hosting?

I have several years of Linux experience and I know how to fix my own problems, and I have experience self-hosting using Docker and Docker Compose, but I really feel that I don’t know how to self-host and that I just copy and paste commands without understanding it, I would really like to learn how to self-host by myself but I...

Depends, if you want something that just works, install TrueNAS scale or CasaOS. Or if you wanna have more flexibility, try out proxmox…

@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

I use linux because both, we are not the same

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

It’s available in homebrew though

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

Do you not use homebrew on macos?

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

No idea, I just saw that there is a docker cask available, so I assume it works

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

Then what’s the point of it lmao

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

I do, though I like my Mac hardware while the software is just good enough to not annoy me too much…

@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

iLO remote client? what’s that?

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

Bit of a problem here, I don’t use windows. All my machines are either Linux or Mac… And I cannot find neither a Linux nor a Mac version of the application…

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not really a huge deal for me, as I generally prefer using SSH and the sort for remote access either way. And besides, the HTML console is clunky, but it gets the job done.

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

Though, I gotta say, my particular version of iLO4 (2.77) seems to have some bug with the HTML console where it sometimes stops receiving inputs after POST, which is rather annoying…

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

yep, did not fix it

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

No, they cannot. If a process is running on your system, you can see it in htop.

I am not gonna be changing my drives, just the server itself and just wanna make sure I don’t screw up my ZFS pools, as that does not sound fun. As for the hardware I’m looking at itself, it’s not new ( a used server) but it’s sure as hell better than what I have now I’m

Presi300,
@Presi300@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve been running TrueNAS scale for a while and my only issue with it has been having to create a virtual bridge so that my VMs can ping the host and vice versa, been a pretty smooth experience other than that. As for the performance overhead… my replacement server is VERY beefy, compared to my old one so I couldn’t care less lol.

Can’t you just bridge the 2 NICs?
