I just has a dream where I watched an amazing film, and I'm so sad it doesn't exist in real life now

RL_Dane,

@Wyndix

Dreams like that are wonderful!

Years ago I had a dream of a beautiful song. It had melody and accompaniment, backing vocals and the whole nine yards.

It filled my heart with joy and I scoured the internet looking for it -- it only existed in my dream.

The only part of it I could remember is, "There's a promise in the morning sky."

In other news, I've been using full time. I can say I'm as comfortable with out-of-the-box Gnome as with my built-from-source, very-personalized . I get people are sometimes pretty opinionated and even argumentative about their digital environments, but I guess I've learnt to Stop Worrying and Love The Get Things Done. XD

Nah. Enjoy what works for you 👍🏼

@gordoooo_z

Mmm, that is a problem, for it is through desire that life moves forward.

But sometimes what we need and desire most is rest.

Then again, often what we need the most is change of perspective.
Probably 90% of the time.

    I prefer to alternate staying up crazy late and waking up very early because... Masochism?

    I just honestly love both late nights and early mornings, ergo my circadian rhythm has PTSD from me 😆

    This last decade has given me whiplash (from speed, as it were).

    Can I just go back to 2008? Pretty please?

    RL_Dane,
    @RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

    @sirber

    2008 with relative sanity, even if that included PHP.

    Besides, perl was still pretty hot stuff in 2008. :D

    Me in 1990: Do you guys still use ascii in the future?
    Me in 2023: Well, kindasorta. We use a mostly ascii-compatible character encoding called UTF-8 which includes every symbol from just about every language known to man, so there's no need to change sw/hw to view something in Japanese, for example.
    1990: Wow, that's amazing!
    2023: It also provides characters called "eh-mo-jee" which consists of smiley faces and symbols which is slowly replacing intelligent written speech.
    1990: WHAT.

    Eh, not so much. GIFs, yes, and sometimes GIFs with multiple images, but I didn't see that feature used for animation until the mid-90s. There just wasn't enough computational power to decompress that much GIF data on the fly.

    For animation in 1990, we had DL, GL, and FLI (all DOS).

    RL_Dane,
    @RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

    @sirber

    Yeah, remember FLI? That was the hotness until either QuickTime or MPEG-1, depending on what OS you were on.

    Man, I still remember watching chunky low-res MPEG-1 videos, ha!

    RL_Dane,
    @RL_Dane@fosstodon.org avatar

    @sirber

    Probably videos in early CDROM games. FLI had a pretty low CPU overhead compared to something like MPEG -- more like very early QuickTime.

    I'd be more interested in Apple if they made stuff like this.
    Or even if they brought back the multicolored logo.

    @fbievan @NanoRaptor

    Apple actually started MacOS X with a fair bit of "Openwashing." Probably because they used a lot of code (although, just in case anyone's asking, I don't think using MacOS counts as using BSD or even UNIX, given how twisted it is, but I guess noone's asking, right? lol)

    That's funny. I'm not too far from there, just a few miles eastward.

    I grew up around the UT Austin housing area early on, then later in the Parmer Ln./Mopac area.

    I'd have no hope of finding my way around now, lol.

    Holy mackerel, I read that as HOURS of PTO at first.

    You'd need nothing less than 30 years of tenure in a U.S. corp for 30 days of PTO, if at all.
