“once you go usenet, you will never go back.” true.

Been a torrent kiddie since the old days and thought this was the end all be all of online availability of stuff i want.

Friend of me got an unlimited account on fastusenet and let me hook into it. 20€/y for a very nice german & international newsgroup forum with unlimited API access that was made with sonarr / radarr in mind.

I can and don’t want to ever go back…it’s blazing fast, whenever i find something, i can be certain that it’s there and ready for download; Unlike torrents… just bcs u got a magnet doesn’t mean there are enough seeders. And then it takes sooooooo long. On usenet i get my 350mbit/s and it can even be unpacked while being downloaded.

That way i can request a movie and watch it in 20min even if it’s a BR-REMUX that is like 8090GB

I happily pay for that!

...this is a new low for low-effort posts.

Wow.

Take a look into the logs, anything suspicious there? Maybe some timeouts, read/write errors, unresponsive tasks?

What does your webserver say about resource usage for nextcloud? If you load it up, does it stay super low like not even giving it enough resource?

This is half-rant, half question. Maybe 4 months ago a key was pressed on my keyboard which rendered it borderline useless for days - multiple reboots, driver reinstalls, win-spacebar, troubleshooters, ad nauseum. At this point I don't remember if it was NumLock, ScrollLock, or Pause. Fast forward to 4 days ago and the keyboard fails in a similar manner: can't type L,O,A,M,Y or @. Google doesn't help. Manufacturer removed features I need, so can't easily buy my way out of the problem. I wake up this morning, and apparently the cause of my problems is that the cat had hit F10 ("Game Mode"). Why, in the name of all that is good and holy, would something like that persist through a reboot?

i can only imagine the firmware of the keyboard would internally change W,A,S,D to the arrow keys then? but only guessing...

Nonetheless, this gaming mode sounds extremely stupid lmao

and yes, as @YakTrimmer said - it persists through reboots because it's stored in the storage of the keyboard itself, not the PC.

Sadly no “official support” for X11…

But let’s see how it goes. I love bismuth very much but I start to feel the bugginess 😭

Work around: upgrade to 0.0.35 and avoid crashing

I've been seeing a lot of posts about people being stuck between server (lemmy 0.18) and client (Jerboa 0.0.33—35) versions (not installed from IzzyOnDroid and logged in) with Jerboa crashing. Here's a way to avoid that issue while still being able to log in and browse both Lemmy 0.18 or older instances....

Doesn't work for me sadly...i am on an instance that is on 0.17. I updated to 0.35 and it didn't work. Now whenever i install some older version it automatically crashes no matter what.

I cleared caches, deleted files, restarted, tried airplane mode - nothing works.

I can only start the 0.35 version if i download the apk directly from the website of izzy and nothing else works now...

You can give Kavita a shot. Maybe it detects the titles...

yes transcoding is enabled and working perfectly fine on all the other movies / shows. It's hardware decoding using the GTX1660 i installed in that server.

hardware transcoding the movie down to 1080p to view on my tablet for example runs buttery smooth...

i compared it to my copy of John Wick 3... same video & audio codec.... AC3 for audio h256 for video

Kavita is my go to for a long time now aswell.

i absolutely love kavita

It's really clean super fast and works really well as a webapp on all devices. Works well with all kinds of fileformats and does a decent job of finding meta data.

Would there be a possibility to login from your local instance and subscribe to them from there? Or am i missing out something? Do i have to copy the name, go on lemmy.dbzero.com/c/whatever@wherever and subscribe then? Or is there a more easy way?
