I had a letter posted about works that were nowhere near me, so disregarded it. Then I got a hastily hand addressed notice in my letterbox telling me about work starting the next day, so I think they stuffed up the address.

I haven’t always been notified of work in the street where they are closing the roads, but they generally haven’t completely blocked access, I’ve still been able to drive in and out with supervision (to make sure I don’t run over the workers!). I did have to park a few houses away temporarily once when they did block access for a bit, but the workers were very friendly and helped me carry my groceries home 😁

I have a ton of crows in my back yard having some sort of cawing competition. Is this a sign of something? Should I be worried? I’ve also had a black cat cross my path…

The crows are definitely a rare event where I am, although the black cat is a regular occurrence. Usually she is trying to trip me up.

There have also been a lot of cockies around lately, probably related to the liquidambar seeds everywhere. Maybe it’s some sort of bird war?

I doubt I could concentrate on work having just won 150 million. I think I’d need at least a week off to have a minor nervous breakdown while I sorted myself out.

Afterwards I definitely would not want a job. Which is different from not wanting to work or do anything productive. If I won a massive amount like that I would look at starting a charity, probably focused on providing housing and support to people in need. Working out how to do that would probably be a full time job, just figuring out how to actually set up and structure something like that, what the goals etc. would actually be, finding the people needed to make it a success.

I honestly doubt 150 million would be enough for that.

What I would probably do in that regard is look at where the missing links are in allowing a more community based supply chain. Most likely something like developing community hubs that can serve as a distribution link between suppliers and consumers. Farmers and bigger suppliers are not generally set up to provide retail quantities, but you can often set up “group buying” schemes to buy in the bigger quantities and divide them up. But they tend to be limited by the lack of places to store and distribute those purchases. If you could set up points that could do that you could have people pick up directly or organise deliveries using uber or other locally available delivery options. Because everything is pre-ordered you would not be trying to handle a retail style shop but could provide a lot of the benefits. If you could provide the initial funds for communities to set up something like that and they could collect a small amount to provide ongoing running costs it would be self sustainable.

This already happens on a limited basis, through places like CERES and community centres. It even happens informally within groups - we have people at work that regularly take shares in a cow and have had things like bulk mango or pumpkin purchases split up there!

Miss Meow managed to knock her toy completely upside down whilst flying past doing zoomies. Apparently being upside down makes it very interesting and mysterious again.

This reminds me of a time I got lost - I followed the direction on a road sign to go from a tourist destination I had visited and it pointed me into a plantation where I got lost. Both paper and gps maps were inaccurate and a lot of road were not passable. I pulled over to check the map over and over but the roads didn’t match reality and I kept going in circles and it took me hours to get back out. Not quite as bad as trying to navigate the Epworth Hospital carpark but a close second.

The big problem is that they are taking the same sort of approach that Microsoft did with it’s stupid paperclip that everyone hated. People want useful tools, not a system which actually blocks you from doing what you want and instead constantly tries to override what you want to do and know.

It’s likely to be circulation issues more than actual cold, in which case extra clothing does not help as much. More activity would be helpful as that stimulates circulation, but an electric heated blanket might be a good option for them.

I like the grocery list app I use. You can group items so that things close together in the shop are together on the list. And when you cross off an item it moves it out of the list so you can easily see if you have everything.
