Which if you think about it, really works to the advantage of the rural people the most, to have a slave low-wage-earning population forced to live inside the city, so that whenever the rural people deign to grace them with their presence, their fast-food burgers are at maximum cheapiness.

There’s plenty of people earning slave wages in rural areas.

I was wrong, he’s not resigning, apparently? Coverage of local races is notoriously horrible and Google is worse.

He also famously refused to meet with constituents.

He literally could not care less what I think, and has told me so in numerous letters I’ve gotten from him in response to believing “just write your representatives” would work.

ETA: He is currently up for reelection. It’s a red district so he’ll win. My neighbors scare me.

As someone who’s done a ton of work getting companies to be SOX compliant I have a fresh new hatred for our system of government. I get a new one just about every day at this point.

I’ve been voting for 24 years and have never seen this happen. They double down and that gets their voters even more fired up to vote.

As someone with decades of experience in the tech industry we should stay as far away from electronic voting as possible. I know the sort of people who work on government systems and do not trust them or their code.

It’s less than 200 million votes, being counted and recounted in parallel by people all over the country. The problem of scale isn’t big enough to justify the security risks. I’m willing to wait a week to make sure the count is accurate and true with paper ballots.

It really doesn’t matter how many square miles turn red, it’s the people who do the voting.

Inside of states for popular elections this is true. However, that giant area of red is over-represented at just about every level of government, from the electoral college to Congress to state legislatures.

The fact that people block ozma when this is a perfectly valid political post about a very concerning topic would be hilarious if the consequences weren’t so dire.

They’ll ignore the canary in the coalmine and then wake up after Election Day and wonder what the fuck happened. Again.

I’ve seen a few people complain about how “everything is anti-Biden, so I blocked them.” Which is a bit like “That canary is too loud so I’m just gonna crank my airpods.” Also, neither of those links have any posts about ozma’s behavior.

I work with databases and don’t use master/slave because it’s not really accurate. Replicas break a lot, and the primary doesn’t have any control over them.

If we’re going to be proposing things that will never happen: Total public funding of elections, so everybody can run a national campaign if they get enough signatures.

Exactly. OP is mad at alienation, not at progress. In a different, less stupid world these labor saving devices would actually be great, leading to a better quality of life for everyone, and getting a really awesome coffee maker. But the people making the decisions aren’t the consumers or the researchers.
