Some logical responses here, and I completely understand where your rulings come from.
I think I want to try something different in my game. This is coming from the RAW verbiage “First, you decide what perceivable circumstance will trigger your reaction. Then, you choose the action you will take in response to that trigger, or you choose to move up to your speed in response to it.”
I read that as, yes, a single action and trigger happens but you can decide what PERCEIVABLE circumstance will trigger the action. In the case of a more seasoned/experienced combatant - they can perceive multiple actions and potential responses to those actions at the same time, but in real time can only take that one response based on the trigger because of the speed of which things are happening.
Perhaps I could amend my rule as someone level 2 and above can do this or only martial characters (since they are seasoned fighters) can make use of this special amendment of readying an action.
Or maybe I’ll scrap it all and go with only allowing single circumstance reactions (as you all have interpreted). I think I’ll bring it up with my table and see how they feel.
“Reddit is publicly extending an olive branch to the moderator community that it largely enraged over recent weeks…But as you might expect, mods remain skeptical.”
It’ll burn itself when if we all just ignore them and don’t use them while simultaneously spreading word of Lemmy when in conversation with others online.
Right? That’s who I wanted to post this article here. Everything Reddit is saying is just PR spin. I get that it’s their platform, but damn…they rely on the major contributors there to make them valuable.
It’s gross that they are putting the blame on those that cared and trying to backhandedly repair what they lost.
Hopefully those that have moved over here to Lemmy are the ones that provided the most value and whatever is left will slowly make Reddit a terrible place to be and thus kill it.
Yeah, I do wonder if that’s what they want - bring back the old moss while having the new moss help out under the guise of “they are providing additional support to make your life easier!”
That gives the new mods free training and then Reddit can axe the old mods again. or maybe I am giving them too much credit.

Hi, I can’t get enough D&D, so was wondering if someone could suggest a computer game that involves actual role-playing, like making a character with personality where interacting with the world based on that personality matters? I’ve tried some of the traditional D&D games (like DDO), and there is essentially no...
Original Sin and 2 were literally created to be video game adaptations of d&d. they didn’t have the rights so they made their own thing, but it essentially uses the rules of d&d.
Now they’re doing Baldur’s Gate, so they get to make the game we’ve all wanted all along.
Now that I’ve tried to find an official source stating it was dnd or that was the creator’s original intent, I realize I am probably just repeating internet rumors/lore.
My bad.
I would, however, argue that they are classless systems. You have a lot of freedom, but there are base stats and a leaning toward a specific role. Even dnd can be like this if you multi-class. There are homebrews from DMs that create all new classes (much like if you wanted to create a non-templates character in d:os).
It uses turn based combat based on initiatives, uses difficulty scores or ac scores to determine if you hit and damage done. It has an action and movement as your general turn (possibly a bonus action if there are leftover APs). It’s a story where you can do almost anything and there are consequences to actions.
I could be stretching some of this, but it definitely is trying to emulate a TTRPG experience in video game form.
I’m about to start running my first proper campaign for a few friends. I ran a one shot a few weeks ago for some of them which included a lot of puzzles which they enjoyed and I want to add into the campaign....
One I’ve done was they were in a room with 6 paintings of various lizards. On the back wall was were dials that when spun would give letters a-z. I set the code to “dragon” and I had a bunch of different reptile creatures I pulled from the MM. In the pictures there were a certain number of those animals with a plaque underneath detailing the painting (e.g., basilisks warming on rocks in a field). Now, the number of animals referred to a letter in the reptile’s name. And each picture had different reptiles (basilisk, kobold, lizard folk, etc). So, for example, 4 kobold gave you a “o”, 6 lizard folk gives you a “d”, and 2 basilisks give you an “a”.
When the players figured out the combos and input the answer in the dials they would hear a click noting they placed the right letter in the right place and when the word was spelled out a mechanism began to work and a secret door opened to another room and the dials reset for anyone else who would stumble upon that room.
Another one I was going to do was a variation on the fox, chicken, grain puzzle. In this they would be tracking down a crazy druid who went rogue and this puzzle would help get them closer to his lair. I did mine with hawk, frog, fly and a small boat has to cross the canal and they place these idols on the posts. If they were wrong then the idols would reset and some weak nature golems would attack.
For the longest time I was wondering what this icon is about. It seems kind of redundant because posts that I read before are already greyed out. Does the icon serve another purpose because I feel like it clutters the interface. Could we get rid of it?
It’s honestly a ton of fun. I like the tactical combat options, I like that everyone has a chance to shine without feeling overshadowed due to other classes, I like the minion system, the cinematic-like skill challenges, some interesting classes, and feats mean a lot.
I don’t think people realize how much 5e is a streamlined version of 4e with some tweaks. And anyone that says 4e isn’t RP heavy - that’s on your groups. We have entire sessions of roleplay no problem.
