Ok, making a new thread for Highscore stuff, since the old ones are a mess because of migration etc.

Previous threads:

Continuation will be here.

alice,

It's not fully implemented yet, but a sneak peek of what's happening :3

alice,

Ok, it landed.

If you have existing snapshots, they need to be migrated. Since this is still all in development, I did NOT add automatic migration. Instead, you can use the following script:

#!/bin/bash

DIR="$HOME/.var/app/org.gnome.World.Highscore2.Devel/data/highscore"

cd $DIR

if [ ! -e saves2 ]; then
  cp -r saves saves2
fi

cd saves

for F in $(ls | grep metadata); do
  GAME_UID="${F%.metadata}"

  DATE_STR=$(grep 'Creation Date' $F | grep -Po '(?<=Creation Date=).*')
  DATE=$(date '+%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S' --date=$DATE_STR -u)

  mkdir "$GAME_UID"
  mkdir "$GAME_UID/$DATE"

  if [ -e "$GAME_UID.save" ]; then
    mv "$GAME_UID.save" "$GAME_UID/$DATE/save"
  fi

  mv "$GAME_UID.savestate" "$GAME_UID/$DATE/savestate"
  mv "$GAME_UID.png"       "$GAME_UID/$DATE/screenshot"
  mv "$GAME_UID.metadata"  "$GAME_UID/$DATE/metadata"
done

Run it in ~/.var/app/org.gnome.World.Highscore2.Devel/data/highscore.

Another caveat is that saving/loading is currently completely broken for N64 games. This is not a new bug, it happens because the game is paused while it's happening. I just need to fix it within the mupen64plus port. But since it's not a part of highscore itself, I landed the new UI first.

There are also no shortcuts right now, that needs further consideration since the shortcuts from the old app had pretty big issues (if you press ctrl and then A, it's fine, if you press A and then ctrl, the game receives the A press and now you've done something within the game - not great)

Anyway, yeah :3

alice,

Also yes, there are autosaves when quitting/resetting the game, and also when loading another snapshot. There can only be 5 of them at a time, the older ones are autodeleted, so they won't pile up endlessly. (i.e. same as in the old app)

Autosaves can be converted into persistent saves via renaming.

alice,

Fixed the mupen64plus bug, and also re-added the desmume hack for removing the flicker. Unfortunately it does not look like there's a way to avoid it properly, and upstream has it too (I didn't notice it since I was testing with software rendering, and it only happens with GL), so skipping frames it is. 3 frames seems to cover most games, tho it's not 100% flicker-proof

alice,

Made the welcome dialog a bit more detailed, so that I can later add a gamepad mapping page there, tho it very much would benefit from a designer review

alice,

Implemented covers.

Only local covers atm, like in the old app:

  • A file with the same name as the ROM but with a different extension
  • cover.png/etc
  • folder.png/etc

Additionally, it's possible to override them from properties, similarly to custom icons in Nautilus.

Covers are also picked up for games not in the library. In this case, importing them copies the cover as well.

alice,

Also implemented a search provider.

Same as in the old app, sometimes it just fails to anything the first time you use it, but is fine afterwards. Not sure why. Otherwise it works.
