Some app developers complain about getting in their issue trackers, issues specific to a distro, or a distro packaging issue.

But several distros have their own bug trackers for package issues. Some like debian recommend to report to the distro first.

Makes me think that maybe software stores like software could indicate in the application issues section something like:

This application is provided via your distro's repositories. Report any issues to distro bug tracker first.

bragefuglseth,
@bragefuglseth@fosstodon.org avatar

@maryjane If the distro is packaging the app, it has control over the appstream metadata it uses, so it could theoretically update those links to lead to its own tracker.

bragefuglseth,
@bragefuglseth@fosstodon.org avatar

@maryjane It wouldn't be very good UX to make people manually look that up, and it's (unfortunately) impossible to programatically determine if an app accepts distro package issues as well

bragefuglseth,
@bragefuglseth@fosstodon.org avatar

@maryjane If they take the time to package the app manually, they might as well fill in a metainfo field IMO :)

Opened up Apostrophe to edit a README and it launched in its sleek 3.0 version. Life is good.

@Seirdy I assume that the intention was to use here as well. That hashtag is neat because there are a lot of extensions that could in theory be apps instead. It doesn't necessarily mean that all extensions are bad, but an extension that e.g. just adds a popup to the top bar containing a pomodoro timer, could easily be an app instead, and consequently work across many desktops and GNOME versions.

@sonny @tbernard Maybe you could help me. I have a bug report to file, but I don't know where to do it. This bug only concerns flatpak applications, regardless of the runtime (Freedesktop, GNOME and KDE), however they are not all affected (Chromium, electron applications, yuki-iptv and Neverball are not affected). When I type the French quotation marks « and » on the keyboard, nothing is displayed. 1/2

Shoutout to Fina Wilke's Warp! Such a nice, self-contained way to just send stuff between devices. Works like a charm for both my 5GB music folder and that Markdown document I wanted to bring with me on my laptop to do some editing while away from my room. Take it for a spin and experience the magic for yourself!

@alavi The app utilizes the Magic Wormhole protocol, which has more clients available than just Warp. See https://magic-wormhole.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ecosystem.html#end-user-client-applications

Wrapping my head around the icon for my app. I've read all the Gnome human interface , but this doesn't change the fact I've absolutely no idea what I'm doing... 🤣

@penguin86 Are you using App Icon Preview? It sets you up with a template and lets you preview the icon easily

Flathub recently updated their website by adding some color to their homepage. Will we see gradients too?

bragefuglseth,
@bragefuglseth@fosstodon.org avatar

@textovervideo There probably won’t be gradients, as apps can only set singular brand colors in their metadata, and gradients aren’t a prominent part of Flathub’s current visual language

If there were any feature of Gnome I'd want, it'd be the ability to right-click any icon in the Applications menu and immediately edit the .desktop file.

Retro; the customizable clock widget is now available on Flathub in v2

What's new:

• 24/12h support (follows GNOME Settings)
• Energy usage optimizations
• Better support for round clocks
• Controls moved out of the way

What do you think of the floating header bar?
