The purpose of Linux is to be a free and open source OS kernel on top of which free and open source software can provide whatever user experience they want to provide and users are free to pick one.
I legitimately credit Compiz and CCSM for kick-starting my obsession with FOSS and probably doubling or more my salary by getting me on Linux earlier in life.
Iโm quite happy with Backblaze B2 for my backup storage. I think I pay like $3/mo for a few hundred gigabytes though they did recently change their pricing. Iirc it wasnโt going to affect me much. On top of their security settings like encryption and deletion locks, I use local encrypted backup tools like restic that make it dead simple to worry less.
I used Plex for my home media for almost a year, then it stopped playing nice for reasons I gave up on diagnosing. While looking at alternatives, I found Jellyfin which is much more responsive, IMO, and the UI is much nicer as well....

Using the sensor behind the screen turns on a surprisingly bright circle of the screen behind your finger, even with the rest of the screen dimmed (say, because youโre in bed with the lights out) itโs the same brightness, probably just 100%. Presumably it helps the sensor work better. Move your finger a bit too much and that brightness hits your eyes. Which can be uncomfortable at the surprising level of brightness.

I would love to see a push for more open source and less reliance on patents and trade secrets in non-tech industry. Believe me, you can differentiate yourself plenty without an artificial stranglehold on technology because people will make terrible decisions regardless. With openness you can at least keep those decisions confined to less important areas.
