The admin probably was a bit too uncharitable in interpreting the meme due to who was posting it, but it was ultimately removed for being unrelated to piracy.

Y’all need to chill with the hate though. It’s what causing these situations as admins and mods immediately assume bad faith from hexbears and .ml

PS: Also this doesn’t even feel like a post fitting for the dunk tank since it’s not even a public post somewhere, but just a lemming being upset they got moderated (like pretty much every lemming being moderated) and looking for a friendly space to shitstir.

Personally I probably would have let it stay for the agitation, but its relevance to piracy is really strenuous; by which I mean, when someone goes to /c/piracy, they don’t go for memes like this. At the end of the day, having a meme removed is such a trivial thing to get worked up about…

Honestly, the typical source of friction causing interactions is the inability to accept that different people can interpret things differently. I understand you interpret it that way. And I do too. But other people, such as unruffled didn’t. They interpreted it as the OP calling everyone in western nations pro-corpo, anti-piracy. Under that interpretation, the meme becomes less about piracy, and more about blanket hate of “westerners” which is why they called it “tankie-adjacent”. We can argue endlessly if they were right to make such an interpretation, but it won’t lead to anything.

The point is that such things happen, it’s on us to avoid escalating mere miscommunication, into drama slap fights between instances. It’s the constant willingness of people to let themselves be goaded into unrestricted toxicity over such things as some random person getting upset that their meme got removed, which then of course, leads to more mistrust and bad faith, which leads to more miscommunication and so on.

This is my biggest gripe, I “borrowed” that meme from r/piracy it’s clearly related to piracy: it’s a play (an iperbole) on the stereotype of the “corporate bootlicker” I bet you encountered it tons of times in piracy communities, I certainly did.

As much as I agree with the sentiment of the meme, it’s only tangentially related to piracy at a stretch. Like the word “piracy” could be removed and it would change nothing about the meme. It being in /r/piracy is irrelevant since that sub is barely moderated. The admin in question interpreted it differently and removed it as not related. Chill, it’s just a meme posts. Nothing happens in a vacuum. By the time I posted, this place was already filled with hate, toxicity and bad faith towards our instance. You can’t fault me for being colored by the environment I post in. Nevertheless, I think I was more than reasonable in my initial engagements,which is why they went much better than they did with you.

So I saw a meme about piracy on reddit (apparently a tankie HQ) and I wanted to share it on the biggest piracy instance on the fediverse, with good intentions I post, it gets some replies, but the funny thing is I can’t reply as the post has been removed by the admins of that instance....
