If you're here because of my CO₂ measurement thread (I'm about to summarize it for clarity), here's some context you may have missed: I'm a Brazilian living in the Central-West region of Brazil—more specifically, in the capital city of Goiás. I'm an Information Systems undergraduate at my state's federal public university. We seldom see HVAC systems here. Cooling is often provided by mini split AC systems.

My opinion about #FOSDEM: I had to experience it at least once, I think, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be one of the keynoters.

But that smugness while saying “Yes, we’re a superspreader event, yes, you should probably wear a mask, but 🤷🏻 we ain’t making it a policy, you do you” killed me. I attended it once, but won’t attend it again (as I suspected).

A note on doctor’s notes: I am blind since birth. When I was trying to transfer from a university with no accessibility center to another that had one, I needed a doctor’s note with updated eye test results to prove I’m disabled to the commission of the test I was about to take. I needed that to validate my accommodations request.

The ophthalmologist I saw since I was a child — who wrote multiple papers about my conditions — couldn’t be bothered to fill out the necessary paperwork.

O máximo que eu encontrei foram notícias sobre o aumento do preço da farinha de trigo e um boicote goianiense aos pães franceses por causa do aumento do preço (mas mais tarde do que mozi se lembra).

When I mentioned the lack of clear guidelines for recovery from COVID-19, the majority of people seemed to associate the word ‘recovery’ with the period of time your body is actively fighting an infection rather than both the period with an active infection and the period after the infection.

When I say guidelines for recovery aren’t clear, I mean the latter. What you do after your body successfully fights an infection is as important as what you did when it was fighting one.

Others can talk about it in more detail, but I find it interesting when I see someone say they’d feel excluded seeing posts in languages other than English because honestly, exclusion is the default state for a lot non-English speaking countries, cultures, populations.

And I haven’t even mentioned more violent mechanisms of oppression, imperialism, and colonialism that aim to erase and extinct other languages and cultures.
