I think fundamentally, and often, what we read on the phone usually have different contexts than what we want to read on the bigger screens. I don't read technical documentations on the go when riding the trains.

It's good to have things only in the contexts that you need them. Creates focus. The cloud giving us all the options all the time degraded the value of focus.

The thing is, we don't protect the delineation of our contexts. We work on the bed. We take meetings on the taxi. We play games on the toilet. 🤣 We lost it. 😅

It's good to have some boundaries.

There is an incredible danger with increasing seniority that you deal entirely in abstractions and don’t build things. Or worse—you think that building things is for juniors.

🚩 You build the platform but nothing on the platform.

🚩 You build the framework but nothing with the framework.

🚩 You devrel but it becomes 100% rel and 0% dev.

Don’t fall into this trap! Be your own customer—keep building 🏆

@zachleat at least work closely with people who do build on it. I’d say at least three different use cases.

    okay hopping into a meeting where I need to defend angular standalone components, sort of

    or better: get everyone on the same page

    Cozy is the open-source alternative to pocket.com

    There, I said it 🤪

    Pocket is one of my favorite apps for more than 10 years. It has always been on my phone since my first smartphone. But it's proof that software is not forever. Businessy decisions now put the most basic feature behind a paid tier: you can no longer "read anywhere" as they market it. You need to be online, and your saved stuff is no longer "forever". This was not the case before.

    They don't even remove distractions now on my phone, it's just a browser that opens web pages with all the popups and ads. I think they got too big and have to handle more risks--but not for the good of users.

    @jfalava I built / am building one! https://cozy-reader.netlify.app

    I definitely have more added value planned for my alternative project, and I will write more about that, but just wanted to vent the frustrations that lead to starting it first in this tiny thread.

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @Marmous Yes and looked into it before deciding to start this project. I think modern browser APIs allow for features now that a backend is unnecessary for my use case.

    I made it so no signups or setups is needed for the user, it just works.

    @jelv Oh yeah I responded to this here: https://social.ayco.io/@ayo/110627265147599750

    @aral Oooh thanks! I do need options for names soon haha. There’s also a Dutch word that I liked when I heard it but I don’t recall now 🤣

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @claudius indeed. I'm going for "no signups or setups needed"

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @misanthrope @claudius I really wished wallabag worked for me and save me the trouble of writing code. Not saying stop using it at all :)

    You may have a good idea about your questions in the project readme in the GitHub repo I linked! Open to questions after

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @thurisaz @aral pouch sounds cute :) haha thanks for the ideas!

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @misanthrope @claudius ohh sorry thought that answers the question 😄 yes, all info on that is still in my head. stay tuned I will write more about that

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @misanthrope @claudius basically I'm thinking of this

    1. enable import/export in a more readable format
    2. import -> sync -> export via available cloud options

    definitely tons of work in this area, probably will drop some balls but hopefully at that point it's a more viable open source project with some contributors

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @misanthrope @claudius Thanks guys, these are all captured for consideration. Definitely Nextcould is high on the list of interoperability

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    @Marmous not yet. local & offline is important groundwork, but cloud-sync is in the horizon :)

    ayo,

    @lukem Thank you! 🙏

    I got a visa card that got charged by Meta/Facebook for something. I never gave them info about this card.

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    You see this pattern a lot in many different systems... blurring the lines of real-world currency and their own currency. I don't like it, but different topic 🤣

    ayo,
    @ayo@ayco.io avatar

    It's not a lot of money to be honest, and was still in the "pending" state. The time it took to research, file for disputes, and secure my account is already more expensive. But had to be done. I see reports that they got charged multiple times because they took action too late
