Decided to write up a post that helped me troubleshoot a $PATH issue I was having.

So Which $PATH should you go down? https://claytonerrington.com/blog/which-path/

Looking to add a /stats page to my blog and website? If you have one, what do you put on yours? So far I have total posts and a nice graph

Hey @cliffwade @beardedtechguy do you know what kind of self hosting you want to move all things tech to? Is it just the mastodon instance or all the other components like the blog too?

cjerrington,
@cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

@cliffwade @beardedtechguy

On one hand, keeping with DigitalOcean would keep the bills in one place. I haven't had a hand in hosting a mastodon instance myself, but other applications.

Essentially, you'd need a VM to install the app portions to and the database.

Most of my knowledge now is in AWS, but estimating costs there can be complicated. I would suspect obtaining a backup of the database and installing the app portion on a new VM should hook all up in the end as well.

    @chris I recently moved my domain and a few others there. Costs are great for registration and DNS. Currently, I am not using their web hosting or other offerings. I've had to reach out to support for general questions and a small issue, and support was quick and effective.

    I learned about porkbun from some others here on the fediverse, who also reccomended them.

    Made the mistake to respond to a customer facing email. My role I don't always have to be customer facing, but the answers are in the email as well!!

    Hey tinkerers!

    I have a git submodule that I am adding inside the repository of my website, but I want it to be ignored, except for its README.md.

    I have tried two different approaches. In both cases I am able to exclude the git submodule, but I can’t find a way to include the README and use it as a regular template.

    Option 1: using .eleventyignore

    inputdir/submodule<br></br>!inputdir/submodule/README.md<br></br>

    Option 2: using .eleventy.js

    module.exports = function (eleventyConfig) {<br></br>  eleventyConfig.ignores.add('inputdir/submodule');<br></br>  eleventyConfig.ignores.add('inputdir/submodule/README.md'); // added it first to be sure<br></br>  eleventyConfig.ignores.delete('inputdir/submodule/README.md');<br></br>};<br></br>

    Do you have any suggestions to fix this? The ignore section in Eleventy’s documentation is not helping much…

    Thanks a lot!

    @tommi @eleventy so you’re trying to only include the readme file from the git submodule?

    Does the submodule needed in the rest of the build? I wonder if the readme.md is the only file needed, there’s is a unique way to clone a specific file instead of the whole repo.

    cjerrington,
    @cjerrington@mstdn.social avatar

    @tommi I wonder then if you can still ignore the folder, which will no be copied to your build, but then do a copypassthrough function for the readme file?

    @hyde @adamsdesk I’ve known someone whose spent time repairing the main circuit and other part on their TV. Some of it was doable but also not meant for repairs either.

    When they finally spent enough time and money on repair parts, a salesman told them to not use Sony either.

    @joel do you know how the Miyoo compares to a RG353V Retro Video Handheld Game Console?

    @joel cool, thanks! I have seen the RG353 for a while and handing seen the Miyoo before. Looks promising and like the idea of the custom os as well!

    Also for the price point the Miyoo seems to have some good features as well.
