Hope this wakes some up!

@LindaCollins11 Actually it was supposedly a silly ploy to get him to commit to support their causes. It wasn't "patriotism" at all.

@LindaCollins11 I have to admit, whenever the LP is involved, all sense of enjoyment disappears, for me.

@LindaCollins11 They have peculiar stances. They are far nuttier than Trump in their policy stances, frankly. They wanted particular promises from Trump, got at least one, and are fool enough to think that means something.

@br00t4c The federal crimes were admitted by the parties involved. Oops! And the business records fraud is evident. Ergo: class E felony. Trump should be happy this is the mildest class of felony in New York.

Still, in theory he could get 20 years in prison.

He won't get 20 years in prison. But he is doing his best to get SOME prison time, which would be unusual.

At some point, my purse became a walking pharmacy. Stomach upset, got a headache? I have you covered. Need bug spray or sunscreen, what about some lotion or hand sanitizer? I've got a snack, and something to freshen your breath.

When I had surgery a few years ago, I had a weight limit of 10 pounds for 3 months! Hubs said he needed to weigh my purse to make sure I could safely carry it. I thought he was joking, turns out it weighed 17 pounds!

Every once in a while I may hint that you can't flee to Canada unless they consider you desirable.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

That said, my passport expired while I was sick with COVID. I have yet to renew it.

Right now I have to stay out of sunlight as much as possible, due to hives. So getting photos can wait a bit.

chemoelectric,

But me and mine would not be accepted for immigration, due to economic burden. My stepdaughter is a ward of the state.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

They'd probably reject me simply on grounds of my disabilities. There is leeway to do that, unless things have changed.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

Canada has an immigration system built around filling economic spots. It is an "underpopulated country" situation, if you want to look at it that way. But it is not a FAIR system, from the migrant's point of view. It is a system of engineering of a vision of Canada's future.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

The U.S. has a different situation and, basically, we are a refuge in a way Canada is not. But Republicans want us not to be a refuge. Thus we have a problem.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

Anyway, I couldn't possibly afford the insurance, etc, to live in Canada as an unemployed guest.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

I mean, I am unable to work. So right there, I could not get into Canada unless I brought a heck lot of money, right?

If you see what I mean.

It's not fair. It's not meant to be fair. It hasn't been meant to be fair since forever.

What I am trying to say is Canada is a sort of gated community that SOME people can flee to, to get away from the Republicans. But it is a gated community.

We are more prone to anthromorphizing LLMs than to humanizing suffering humans

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@larsmb @dngrs

Anthropomorphizing an LLM is itself an act of ignorance. It is merely an automaton cloaked in elegant grammar.

It is perfectly obvious that a language model cannot capture the essence of "intelligence", because the closest thing to human intelligence is chimpanzee intelligence, and IT HAS NO LANGUAGE.

Computer science people working in "AI" are involved in a giant self-delusion that is reinforced by our idiotic "intellectual" rewards system.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@larsmb @dngrs

They'll come back sometimes and say to me they may hit upon a different kind of "intelligence". And I may win the lottery without buying a ticket, but wouldn't count on it.

chemoelectric,
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@tseitr @larsmb @dngrs

The problem for dolphins is they evidently have no libraries, and it is very difficult to imagine HOW they could construct libraries. Thus their ability to accumulate learning is limited in a way human ability is not.

Of course, LLMs do not address this aspect of intelligence, either. They decrease the quality of our collective library.

chemoelectric, (edited )
@chemoelectric@masto.ai avatar

@larsmb @tseitr @dngrs

That is a claim without empirical evidence.

In any case, it is beside the point. Humans have libraries and dolphins do not, therefore humans have a higher class of intelligence. But it still is an intelligence founded on a NON-VERBAL foundation.

Hi, Fediverse,

I have my weekend blog post ready. It's a fun one because I answered a question about juries and I wrote about the Zenger trial.

What? You've never heard of the Zenger trial?

Black ash edge-grain cutting board. Made from scrap cuts I bought online. I finished with tung oil, because black ash has an open grain and several coats of tung oil would partly fill the grain. Else I would have used mineral oil and beeswax/carnauba wax.

The candle in the picture was made of paraffin wax poured into a silicone beaker, and so has faint volume marks on its side. 🤪 The robin's egg blue color is from mica pigment powder.

Presumably there is some reference to international law. Merely conducting military operations is not in itself against international law. But this all began as an illegal attempt at mass deportation, I think. Now it is heck knows.

Taking hostages OTOH is one of the classic violations, for which war criminals often were executed. So that one was never in doubt. How anyone can protest one thing but not at the same time protest the other is beyond me, unless they hate Jews.

chemoelectric,

But the situation is much bigger than this "World Court". So it is really kind of them being childish, when they issue this ultimatum. IMO.
