I feel like in many ways we’re watching the calm before the real big storm, don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to minimize the horrors being inflicted upon Palestinians and Ukrainians or paint them as trivial, but I can’t shake this ominous impression that the whole of the current global order is about to be completely turned on its head and plunge everyone into chaos. The order needs to be overturned and desperately so, but those in advantageous positions to rebuild after are not the ones that want to reshape it for the good of humanity, but themselves and that deeply terrifies me
Fucking Nixon would probably be disappointed in the current GOP, he was an awful man but even a noted doctor of journalism called out how much worse they had gotten since then and that was 20 years ago

I mean it’s not the only deeply troubling part, but having grown up attending many youth oriented religious events that constantly preached stacking the courts, electing strong Christian leaders, and generally ‘taking back America for Jesus’, I’m not surprised at all but I am terrified
I live in Seattle and met a few Indian dudes at a networking event the other month who were both enthusiastically discussing a move to Texas where housing and taxes were really low. I’m white and from the south originally, I did my damnedest to warn them but they looked at me like was crazy.
I mean it’s been a hot minute since I watched hidden fortress but it’s definitely much more than the droids as far as influence goes, unless I’m completely misremembering it there’s also Kenobi, Luke, and Leia equivalents and Lucas hasnt even been coy about how it was a big influence on the original film as far as I know
