Any suggestions for cheap but decent laptops for coding?

I’m currently learning how to code (currently Python, then maybe JavaScript), but I’m not always around my desktop, and learning on my phone is not always an option (also, it can be quite cumbersome at times). Therefore, I’m looking into purchasing a laptop just for learning how to code and stuff....

For Linux I would just find the best ThinkPad within your budget (a used one, in this case)

Hamas launches rocket attack towards Tel Aviv area (www.bbc.com)

Hamas says it has launched a rocket attack towards the Tel Aviv area in central Israel for the first time in nearly four months. At least eight rockets were launched from the Rafah area in southern Gaza and several were intercepted, the Israeli military says. No injuries have been reported.

Sure would be nice if people in that region stopped attacking civilians at every opportunity.

Kiev shoots rockets into Russia and everyone gets it.

“Kiev” eh, tovarisch? Ukraine doesn’t bomb residential targets. Palestinians should have their own country but don’t defend what Hamas are doing here.

TIL killing 1143 people in one day at one location is not “en masse”.

I think the wast majority of the world agrees with this. It’s even the US’ official position.

Oh my bad, soldiers and police trying to protect concertgoers from getting slaughtered wholesale at a music festival are fair game. Do you hear yourself?

Soldiers of an occupying force are fair game.

Occupying what? That town has always been in Israeli territory.

cygnus,

Occupying Palestine. If you think Israel has a right to exist within the pre-1967 borders, then occupying Gaza and the West Bank.

I beg of everyone, please read sources before forming a position on an issue. So much bloodshed could be avoided on all sides if people took the time to inform themselves before jumping to angry knee-jerk reactions.

The kibbutz [Re’im] was established in 1949 by former Palmach members with the provisional name HaTzofim Vav

I’m not sure why you think the history of the particular place the IOF soldiers were stationed at is relevant.

That’s where the music festival was on Oct 7, you know, the one where civilians were murdered in cold blood out of the blue? The thing that started this whole shitshow? Please allow me to reiterate:

It works with me despite knowing it.

Well, a big mac once every couple months won’t kill you. I enjoy it once in a while (especially after midnight) but eat well the rest of the time. The dosage makes the poison, as the saying goes.

This is mind-boggling. Russia is 821 days into a 3-day invasion of Ukraine, and this is what they choose to focus on? Starting a border conflict with an EU and NATO member?

cygnus,
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

My guess is that Russia is trying to create a threat to NATO countries so that those countries will want to hold onto their defense materials and weapons instead of those going to Ukraine.

NATO is not exactly strapped for materiel at the moment, especially if considering quality vs. quantity. Given the way that an Israeli F35 was able to operate with impunity a short while ago, I don’t think the old Soviet gear would fare too well. theaviationgeekclub.com/iriaf-commander-reportedl…

Joke’s on you, I use Arch and already reboot twice a day for updates.

True, but you can get the best of both worlds with sunscreen. I stopped leaving home without at least SPF 30 and it made a remarkable difference to how quickly my face is aging.

I regret to inform you that gun control is not a panacea. I live in a country with strict gun control and we still get active shooters (albeit less often than the US). Part of the job of Police is to put themselves in harm’s way to stop those people. If they don’t, who will?

It doesn’t make sense for every municipality to have a SWAT team. Uvalde has a population of 15,000 people. Do they really need a pseudo-army platoon on standby for these once-in-a-century events?

The main advantage is generating SimpleLogin email aliases on the fly when clicking in any “email” field. Other than that it seems to work about as well as Bitwarden. I wouldn’t pay extra for Proton Pass but it’s a nice bonus.
