@davatron5000 I love your point about how you end up writing your own (worse) library / framework. I think this is under-appreciated by the no-dependencies crowd.
@davatron5000 Iโve never liked any of those โformattingโ tools. Piss off.
The structure and formatting of my code is literally part of how I think. Fucking with that is like re-formatting a poem or something. It doesnโt read right.
Free Idea: You get one page on your website to list all the stuff you donโt like (react, tailwind, capitalism, whatever) and then the rest of the site can be about stuff you do like (birds, music, books, whatever). So whenever youโre writing a post and start edgelordโing towards a rehashing of the stuff you donโt like, you can say โoh I already wrote about that!โ
@Luke oh i wonder what you read. i don't know that there's much behind my tweet beyond i think people could be stronger writers without a list of grievances in every post. but re: current affairs, it's so easy to complain about the little things, we maybe diminish our voice and goodwill when we criticize the big important things.
@davatron5000 100% agree.
Critique is clearly a difficult skill to learn, I think.
Also objectivity is usually more helpful than flames โฆbut flames perhaps get more attention?
I am horrible at all of this. And so, perhaps our posts are how we learn to navigate writing and โprocessโ the world at large.
To celebrate #GAAD I encourage you to audit the site you're currently working on. Please bro, just one audit bro, lighthouse bro, it's right there in chrome, just audit it bro pleeeez-uh.
Big news: Iโm happy to share that yesterday I started a new job at Microsoft where I'll be working on web components for Fluent UI.
I've had a long relationship with Microsoft โ from Paravel helping to build the first responsive version of their homepage in 2012 to the whole 5 year "#davegoeswindows" stunt that Rey Bango coordinated for ShopTalk โ and this feels like a nice new chapter in that story arc.
@bkardell I think in some ways a browser can be just a rectangle, a window, for viewing the web. But itโs probably a question of โWho benefits if I use this particular rectangle?โ
