Israel is a country. It’s not a religion. It’s not an ethnicity. It’s a nation, just like all the other fucking nations. Not any more, or less, special. They’re not chosen by God, anymore than we are.

So when the people who live there elect leaders who support inhumane policies, the rest of us are free to speak out and say we should not support such things.

Even before this recent nonsense, I had a problem with the ridiculous financial support we provide.

MAGAts will respond in one of two ways to Trump’s legal troubles. One, the indictments are flimsy, the accusations unsubstantiated, and they are going to relish drinking the tears of liberals. Two, it’s a big conspiracy by the deep state to illegally prohibit Trump from succeeding.

At no point is guilt even considered and the don’t even want to know the facts. They are beyond truth.

It’s all either a pathetic joke or a tragic miscarriage of justice.

You always want to cut the fat when editing but the real work comes when you are forced to cut into muscle to make the whole thing stronger. When you’re cutting great writing you like because there simply isn’t enough room, that’s when you know you’ll end up with something great because all that is left is the prime cut.

I will say this. All the animosity of late is always fuel for writing more articles. It’s a push I miss from Facebook where I was constantly refuting bullshit. There’s been much less of it here.

Maybe we need a certain amount of nonsense to keep us on our toes.

I don’t do resolutions, per se, but two things I want to try to figure out this year.

1. A new hobby for my wife and I to do together. It could be throwing axes for all I care, but that one won’t do it. Anything we might both enjoy doing together.

2. A reason to get out of the house and go do something at least once a week. Not a chore or an errand. Something light and pleasant that doesn’t require a five mile hike.

Putting it out into the world and see what comes back.

I told a nurse I was heading to lunch after my appointment the other day, and she asked where I was going. I told her that, unfortunately, I was just going to a local pub. She asked where I would rather be going.

I told her I would like a window seat at Gibsons, a steakhouse in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood downtown. A tall balloon glass of buttery chardonnay and a freshly-made Caesar, followed by a medium rare NY Strip with garlic mashed and broccoli.

There is a disconnect between the people who demand that everyone leave corporately-owned social media platforms and come to the Fediverse and the ones who refuse to allow any sort of commerce to exist here.

It’s an untenable situation.

You can choose to live in isolation, but eventually everyone is going to go somewhere, and they’ll be lured by what capitalism can provide.

People follow the path of least resistance.

Shouldn’t there be a discount crematorium that just does that? No funeral home. They don’t sell caskets. They don’t even sell urns. They just give you the ashes in a paper bag. It would be in a slightly industrial space, but with a nice lobby. Maybe a little soft seating. It would cost like $500.

Seriously, it’s too expensive. It’s also horrible for the environment. It takes 28 gallons of fuel and releases 540 lbs of CO2. Ouch.

When are we going to get serious about composting bodies?

I don’t think I’m being elitist when I say that 90% of entertainment is shit. Movies, television, and music. I still have like four streaming services and there’s nothing on there I want to see. The algorithms make finding new music almost impossible. I keep listening to the same shit.

Maybe it’s not that it’s bad, but it doesn’t interest me.

I guess I could be writing instead, but everyone needs a break.
