I don’t understand the weather in the Middle East. It looks hot, and you’ll see pictures and video of kids wearing short sleeve tees and sandals, but then women are covered head to toe and some men wear are wearing coats, but also sandals. I don’t understand the desert. So it’s hot AND cold AND there’s no water?

No wonder they’re all angry.

My granddaughter, and her school choir, are performing the national anthem tonight at the Phillies game. The whole family went to show their support.

This is our youngest grandson, sporting a Phillies hat, tee and cowboy boots, like the good hillbilly he doesn’t know he is. What a piece of work.

I do not support Israel’s war on civilians. I do not support my country’s support of that genocide. But what I’m not going to do is fuck myself and everyone else in the world by formulating some sort of protest vote against a president who nothing if not decent. Why would I do that? So ALL the authoritarians can win?!

Some of this is about what happens here, as well. Or would you prefer to experience Gaza here at home?

@tantramar I often think about the fact that recorded history is what, a few thousand years old? We like to think two or three hundred years ago was ancient history. That’s just three old guys back to back to back. It’s nothing. If we don’t destroy ourselves first, this is merely the infancy.

It’s far too reductive and simplistic to just chalk people up as crazy, stupid, or evil. People are far more complex than that.

I’m struggling to understand what RFK, Jr thinks he’s accomplishing with this half-assed, fringe lunatic run for president.

He’s spending millions just to get on the ballot in states. I think he has two.

What’s his best case scenario? In his mind. What’s a win?

@tantramar I’m flummoxed by the amount of support he’s gotten in polls, but I think actual votes are going to be a very different ball game.

We have a misconception that everyone who votes for a third party would have otherwise voted for one of the other two candidates, as if voting were mandatory. It’s not, not in the US anyway. They might have skipped the presidential box or stayed home.

Elections are won or lost depending on who shows up. It’s not messaging and it’s not candidates.
