May 2023 - “Target removes some Pride Month products after threats against employees” npr.org/…/target-pride-month-lgbtq-products-threa…

Terrorism is an appropriate word here. Threats of violence to achieve political goals. They threatened employees with violence because the store chose to offer those items. I’m not really sure how much more clear cut it can get. Terrorism isn’t just killing people.

terrorism /tĕr′ə-rĭz″əm/ noun

  • The use of violence or the threat of violence, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political goals.
  • The act of terrorizing, or state of being terrorized; a mode of government by terror or intimidation.
  • The practice of coercing governments to accede to political demands by committing violence on civilian targets; any similar use of violence to achieve goals.
  • The deliberate commission of an act of violence to create an emotional response through the suffering of the victims in the furtherance of a political or social agenda.
  • Violence against civilians to achieve military or political objectives.
  • A psychological strategy of war for gaining political or religious ends by deliberately creating a climate of fear among the population of a state.
  • The calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear.
deadtom,

Yeah man, referencing the dictionary and how a word is used vs the nonsense framing you’ve chosen. Some crazy shit.

Chicago banned unannounced migrant drop-offs. Now this Texas charter bus company is suing over the restrictions (www.cnn.com)

A charter bus company hired by the state of Texas to transport migrants to Chicago is trying to flip the script on the border crisis in a federal lawsuit against the city alleging that its ordinance banning unannounced migrant drop-offs is unconstitutional and punishes transportation companies working with Texas, court documents...

deadtom,

Says more about the people of Texas than anything else.

deadtom,

Ah the proud conservative. Tell me friend, how does it feel to be a champion of legalized pedophilia, aka child marraige? Does knowing you are directly responsible for children being raped, legally, because “its a religious tradition” get the engine going? How about the fact that it’s predominantly 60+ year old men “marrying” (to have sex with) young girls and in some cases with no lower age limit? Them proud republican traditions… from the people who have “think of the children” on speed dial. But they never wanted you to think of these children.

I’d be willing to bet you didn’t have a clue. Why? Cause your dumb ass is too busy “owning the libs” to bother looking at your party or institutions actions at any level of the government that you arent spoon fed by fox or other republican propaganda mills. Laughable, that’s how I see every conservative flinging of the term paedophile. It’s funny because your institutions are rife with it, yet you are unphased by the hypocrisy. The catholic church and its priests raping boys is a trope at this point. The Mormon church protects its rapists by changing legislation so they can functionally ignore their confessions instead of reporting to the police. Every other republican politician has a history of sexual deviance, many including children… with the base gasping “imperfect vessel” to hand wave away their disgraceful behavior while accusing their political enemies of the same without a shred of evidence. Straight up moral bankruptcy. Knuckledragging bigots don’t need no evidence to parrot their party’s political message.

Just like they didn’t need evidence to support an insurrection and try to overthrow our duly elected government. Lie to a republican enough, and they will believe anything. Questions like “out of 60 court cases why didn’t Trump present any tangible evidence the election was stolen” are just unimportant details when the party asked you to “fight like hell” to maintain their power. Gullible, traitorous lemmings, the lot of them. Watching the Republican party coalesce around these traitors and try to white wash their acts as “desperate patriotism” is just pathetic and disgraceful. Every person that attacked the capitol on January 6th deserve to hang; being a gullible moron doesn’t excuse one from the consequences of their actions. You support wannabe dictators at your own peril.

Overall, I can only guess how much spit you unknowingly consume in a year. Not nearly as much as you deserve, I imagine. You could try to be a better person, but then that would get in the way of “owning” the libs. The reality is you are so “owned” by your party day in and out, so much so you don’t even know they own you.

deadtom,

“I saw the cross and it struck a nerve. When I think of those men in those dresses molesting children… I saw red, white, and blue… and I knew I needed to stand up for those children’s freedom from this den of paedophiles”

This is the news story I’m waiting for. If only the people larping as protectors of children knew the call was coming from inside their own house of worship.

deadtom,

I like to stream from my pc to the deck when I’m feeling like escaping the desk.

deadtom,

Ah capitalism. Create captured market, change terms to maximize profits.

RNC moves to stop sponsoring primary debates at the national level (abcnews.go.com)

The Republican National Committee on Friday afternoon said it would pause participation in further Republican presidential primary debates, effectively leaving decisions around future debates up to media organizations and the 2024 Republican presidential candidates themselves....

deadtom,

Sure champ. The dnc wasn’t leaning on the scales hillary was just such a good candidate that she lost to Trump. It’s imperative you maintain that ideal otherwise you might come to the realization that you’re part of the problem.

Trump would have likely handed Bernie his ass without breaking a sweat

He had a much better chance than “it’s her turn” Hillary and her baggage. The problem is he actually has a history of helping people and speaks truth to power, contrary to the interests of the DNC and Corporate democrats like ole Hill. He doesn’t bring in that sweet lobbying money from the ultra wealthy, just small donations actually indactive of voter support. It’s why Debbie Wasserman-Shultz was giving Bernie debate questions ahead of time, to help him out… oh right that was Hillary that needed the help… because the dnc chose the candidate they wanted and needed to solidify it by any means.

Either way the reality is the DNC has shown it is incapable of being impartial, and that the whole thing is kabuki nonsense to make you think you have a choice in “choosing” the peice of shit they want you to pick. The DNC is controlled opposition for the wealthy to be able to maintain control on both sides. Not like any sane person is going to vote republican… so they limit options to only the shit sandwich while expecting you to thank them for forcing you to eat it then they bitch when nobody is excited about the shit sandwich.

Then here you are “well of course MY shit sandwich was the only choice and if THEY couldn’t have won, clearly no other sandwich could have come close so stop asking to try another fucking sandwich.” The dishonesty here is just fucking pathetic, but to admit otherwise would be to invite criticism for handing Trump his '16 victory, more so than is already done.

deadtom,

Were this my wife and this bullshit caused her to die the only viable path I could see is personally watching myself squeeze the life out of every single one of these morally bankrupt shit stains. Such utter trash. I don’t know why we haven’t exiled these cultists from civil society.

deadtom,

He only mostly supports the insurrection and attempted overthrow of our democracy, so it’s cool.

deadtom,

Right? These people are seditionists and traitors, calling them dumb children just provides them cover as they try to force their bastardized Christian hegemony on the rest of us.

deadtom,

So steam sale fodder rather than day 1. No problem it’s not like there isn’t a plethora of good games out right now and my backlog is pretty stacked.

deadtom,

Humorous they think Republicans would vote for a woman to lead them considering they don’t see women as having any capacities beyond being birth and baby raising machines that cook, clean and generally maintain the home for a man.

deadtom,

She was also the only R on the ballot. This is a race (to the bottom) of Republicans.

deadtom,

Ah the naivete. Make sure you don’t fall off that high horse you’re liable to hurt yourself.

deadtom,

Living on the border a stones throw from Mexico myself… what border crisis? Care to articulate and provide some citations to back it up?

deadtom,

The game is what you make of it. I just did some international travel and put 16 hours in during off times using my steam deck. Aside from one game close and some graphic particles on the gun being weird until weapon swap, played like a charm.

I just pushed into the main quest line after ignoring it for 13 hours because I found fun shit to do that kept me busy. I’m having a blast and am looking forward to playing some more.

If rando quests and exploration are your thing you may really enjoy this game. The story isn’t super engaging yet but I’m not far as noted. Ready to do some more exploration after some jet lag wears off haha.

deadtom,

Bootlicker Fantasy: “If you defund the police what are you going to do if someone attacks you?”

Police Reality: “We hear a citizen being attacked, maybe if we wait it will go away or become someone else’s problem. These things have a tendency to work themselves out where I don’t have to put myself in harms way… the most important thing is assuming no risk so I can get home to my family because I’m a hero.”

deadtom,

DA should be charged as an accessory. Sex crimes aren’t typically an isolated event, especially when the perpetrator gets away with it the first time.

deadtom,

Go get a better job if you’re unhappy with the responsibility of fighting for your earnings as a server. If nobody chooses to work serving jobs… then restaurants would have to do something more to compensate to bring in servers. Instead servers like the status quo because they make more money by culturally shaming people into donating to them.

they have no power in this situation

Quit. Find better employment. Go be a cook, though they don’t usually make as much as servers despite actually making the food. Funny how that works.

anything worth doing takes hard work and sometimes sacrifice

Just not by the server though right? It’s the customers responsibility to manage the terms of employment for the hapless server in your scenario?

deadtom,

So it’s up to the server to look out for their interests and demand a better wage. Its not “keep tipping servers more and more because its the path of least resistance to prosperity for servers”.

Lots of jobs don’t pay enough in this country, but for some reason servers believe it entitles them to a donation. This is the status quo servers fought for because it made them more money than most of the rest of the staff until now.

deadtom,

Funny you assume I don’t tip. I do, and well, unless the service is dog shit. Which is why I know how much more things cost because of tipping. The problem is instead of it being a bonus for quality of service, its become the expectation to make up for the fact that servers choose not to throw their lot in with the rest of the staff and argue for living wages collectively.

Servers have been privileged with making 2-3x more such that the idea of making what the kitchen staff does is seen as being abused. You just don’t want to accept that the employer abuses you, and instead you abuse the customer with your expectations of having them supplement the poor wage you took expecting the customer will make up for it. Meanwhile the kitchen staff has always been abused but you didn’t mind because you got yours. Maybe work together and demand a better lot?

And here’s the scenario you didn’t care to consider. You quit, they don’t get servers because they don’t pay well, and the business shuts down making room for another that can try again with a better model. Dan can seek an employer that doesn’t treat him as a slave to minimize their costs, and Steve can choose to serve food himself or pay someone appropriately to do the work or close up shop. None of which relies on an expectation of a tip because the wage increase you collectively bargained for is baked into the price. So then when a tip is deserved it can be given, but there is no expectation of 20% for refilling my water at a buffet that I served myself at, or less.

I appreciate the discussion, hope you have a good day bud.

deadtom,

So I have to organize for them, they are incapable of doing so themselves? I already tip, which is why I know the cost of the practice, and the social stigmas not giving in to servers begging comes with.

My experience is servers like the status quo because they make 2-3x what the kitchen staff does. What incentives do servers have to support the kitchen staff they’ve sold out in fighting for better wages? Servers do not do any more work than the people actually making the food.

The social expectation is baked into the exploitative labor relationship.

I agree, servers have been on the abusing side of the exploitative labor relationship. They choose to take less wages so they can expect the customer to pay more or bear the social stigma, giving the employer more savings and themselves significantly more than the kitchen staff. In the end both parties expect to exploit the customer.

deadtom,

Lol just dripping with entitlement. I do tip, which is why I know the associated cost and how much more expensive servers have successfully guilted us into making our restaurant experience in the u.s.

I’m finishing up a vacation to an island nation in South East Asia and this afternoon I had some amazing ramen and thought of you. I walked in and ordered from a kiosk and then a few minutes later grabbed my food from the order drop, made by employees who earn a living wage and do not expect tips for doing their job as a means to try to earn more than the kitchen staff. The food was amazing and despite the markup of being on an island was cheaper than I could get it from the restaurant in my home town after the server tax.

Weird how nowhere in that engagement did i have some entitled person expecting a generous markup on my meal for bringing it and maintaining my drink. In fact thats been the experience this entire trip, even in instances where there was a server involved. Pleasant people who earn a living wage and do their work just like the rest of the staff in the restaurant. When it was appropriate we left more, the difference is it was a reward for excellent service, not just showing up.
