Got MC for something like $10 in their early alpha/beta period. Probably my most played game over the last 10+ years with how many times I’ve gone back to it and dived into one modpack or another. It’s just astounding the amount of momentum that game has had, with both Mojang developed content and fan developed.
I trust Dan Harmon to do something interesting at the least, but man, this really doesn’t match up with the spirit of the original strips, at least in my view. Maybe this is what the creator saw all along.
STA set the bar pretty high with stuff like Lightning Bolt and Demonic Tutor. BRR didn’t have too much to go crazy over, but then MUL had Ragavan and the og Praetors. Hard to say where they think the bar is for these sheets, hah.
To be clear, I’m not talking about underlying mechanisms, either, but the approach to the task. A human writer, even one bad at writing and not understanding the topic, will approach the writing with a goal and write to that goal and topic. They can even research if they so choose, but even if they are just making things up, there is intent and context there.
An LLM doesn’t have any of that. It literally just generates words that match certain patterns, with no actual purpose or goal. It may have been programmed with a goal in mind, but it doesn’t have one of its own. It can’t reason, it can’t research, it can’t make decisions. I think that is an important distinction that people who are just saying “Who cares? It’s all bad writing anyways” are missing.
Tbf, I think overall color is the biggest thing to get right on lands, but yeah, it’s always nice when the subject matches too. My guess is they’re features in the domains of the various colored factions from the set.
This change really only fixes that problem in limited where it wasn’t a significant issue anyways, and standard in 2 years I guess, but there’ll still be 9-12 PWs to stuff into a deck for anyone that wants to do that. For every other format, unless they systematically banned most Planeswalkers, the cows are out of the barn, there.
I know “Fire wolf” already disproves it on it’s face, but I can’t help seeing Redwall in the warrior mouse image.
