Even before Google removed the robots tester tool, it was much better to have a bulk* robots tester.

bulk: test a bunch of URLs across a bunch of user-agents (all combinations) in one go.

It's still here, it's also open-source:

What's the minimum number of clicks needed to go from page A to page B?

Shortest Path Length

What pages B and C, D and F, ... ?
What about all pairs of pages in the whole site?

I'm working on a new chart to evaluate this. The image shows counts for a few websites, and how they're distributed.

Does this make sense?
How would you improve it?

elias,

@simoncox No, this is based on the links obtained from crawling.

Two column CSV (from, to) showing URLs and which other URLs they link to.

While scrolling you're at the same URL, though you're loading more content.

Makes sense?

elias,

@simoncox Great!

I'll try to launch the new chart tomorrow, and would love any feedback :)

elias,

@simoncox Great!

Thanks for checking and letting me know.

Would love to know when you break it with a bigger site :)

The performance gets slower with larger sites. I'm working on this.

Tech question:

Is having too many redirects on a website a bad thing?

If so, how many is too many?

5% of URLs, 10%, 20%?

Any idea and/or reference material?

Here's a sample of some sites I crawled with redirect percentages as a reference.

elias,

@optimisey cool, so the number of redirects is not a meaningful metric to dwell on or care about, it's about what the redirects are doing, do they make sense, are they relevant etc.?
