You can’t actually plop something out in the middle of BFE.

The number of data centers in Prineville/Hermiston/Umatilla/Boardman, OR beg to differ. Power is cheap due to the Bonneville dams and that trumps latency as they’re BFE as hell unless you live in Portland.

While latnecy matters sometimes, there’s still a lot of data center services that care a lot less and can be put anywhere.

No they didn’t learn shit. This retraction comes more than a month after the story was run and will only ever appear as a minor foot note that nobody reads. They already achieved their goal of the initial headline outrage to fan up more fascist flames. 100% got away with it and they will continue to get away with it until they are seized and shut down.

The latest death was due to disease (flu and MSRA, leading to pneumonia and apparently a stroke), though, and his family confirmed as such. Many of these whistle-blowers are older experienced engineers who will be biased towards a higher death rate.

Still, fuck Boeing though. The first suicide remains suspect. Corporate scumbags.

Alternative: you can spend that same 15-25 years paying roughly the same monthly amount in rent at various places, and have exactly zero equity or assets to show for it at the end of the period. Zero zilch nada, the money is burned and gone forever.

Frame it in that sense and it’s a no brainer.

In the current market though either try to get a variable rate mortgage or be prepared to refinance it in a few years if/when interest rates cool down. the current rates suuuuuck.

Be careful where you tread here. You must be careful to separate “communists” (people who believe in economic reorganization away from the power of capital) and “tankies” (those who support corrupt regimes that project the illusion of communism).

There are indeed quite a few communists and various other alt-camp political spectrum believers on here. They do have quite liberal beliefs but don’t typically cause much of a fuss, because rational people can coexist with differing beliefs… and i dont mind them one bit. But the tankes, like lemmygrad, hexbear, etc, do stir up an anti-west "commie propaganda"fuss every chance they get, without being related to actual communism, especially if one mentions a hot button like Israel or Ukraine. And if you get into an argument with a tankie, they will just sling mud on you and call you a Nazi.

The cool part is, you can filter a lot of the chaff by just blocking the ugly instances from your user settings page (since Lemmy supports that now), blocking frequent flyers, and trimming/moving your subscribed community list to other, often smaller instances. A minimal amount of effort VASTLY increases the quality of content you’ll see on lemmy.
