Lots of discussion about how Google has become garbage at pulling up helpful information... how are the alternatives doing? Does anyone actually use another search engine and like it? What do you like about it?
Can anyone recommend a decent iTerm2 replacement for macOS now that iTerm2 has jumped the shark and is pushing ChatGPT integration down my throat? (Preferably one that is (a) free and (b) doesn't require hand-editing JSON files to change the font size and typeface.)
EDIT: hint: point (b) is crucial—if I have to hand-edit a config file that's an automatic fail. Life is too short to be forced to futz around to configure a basic tool.
I do appreciate how, when writing #IETF drafts using the markdown template and GitHub, every writing session starts with spending 30 minutes debugging Python and Ruby build issues – this always make me feel more productive
@jvagle i worry more about the closed source commercial products than the open source. at least the latter can be inspected. cf. crypto ag, netscreen, ...
I don't use an #AdBlocker. I haven't used an ad blocker in a decade or more. I see plenty of ads on the web. What I do is block third-party #cookies and known cross-site #trackers. The number of sites (even apparently legitimate sites) that implore me to disable my ad blocker is disappointing.
Interested in how tracking happens on the web and why it's not easy to just turn it off? Here's the transcript to my new YouTube video on the topic, for those people who would rather read than watch!
Considering how my last phone (a Samsung Galaxy S6) went EOL/support sometime around 2018, I'm a bit overstimulated by how my 'new' phone is so chatty with updates & notifications.
It's gonna take some getting used to having this new noise box in my life.
@kevinbowen it looks cute as all get-out. but my mother told me never to plug some unknown thing in my laptop usb port. maybe with one of those usb condoms which only have the power connections.
As the big email houses move towards requiring DMARC, has anyone seen movement in the Linux server distros for semi-automatic setup of DKIM signing for 'root@server.example.net' emails (from cron, etc.) ?
