I thought it was a little girl jumping lol.

I had more problems on ‘user-friendly’ distros, than I had on Arch.

In Pop!_OS, you have the Pop!_Shop, and they added their own repos for software aren’t included in Ubuntu’s repo or exist mainly as Snap packages; they also included Flathub.

Under the app name you want to install, you’ll have a little drop-down box with option to choose (if there’s more than one option) where to download the package from.

Use && to use multiple commands one after the other, don’t use ;.

For me, the fastest way to learn is by playing with it, and it sounds like you’re the same.

If you prefer to avoid installing it ‘bare metal’, you can have it on a VM.

I’d suggest specifically QEMU, or VirtualBox.

QEMU, because of the performance, and VB, for its universality, and cross-platform compatibility.

Honesty? Nowadays Linux is just easier for me.

Sometimes you forget that a lot of tools you are use to have in Linux don’t even exist on Windows (like watch and cut). On Windows there are some problems you don’t even have to deal with on Unix-like systems.

P.S. for anyone that want to install NPxSB, install their new app Tubular instead.

I like the vibe of 4 and 6.

Then 5, 2, 1, 3, that have ‘professional’(?) look.

Snaps, I think I’ll pass.

Even without them, I don’t have time to uninstall/remove everything I don’t need.

DIY distros suit my needs more, but thanks anyway.

PSA: For those who want signal on secondary phone, use molly.

Recently discovered this. Molly supports link with existing device just like on signal desktop. It even has benefit of getting entire chat history unlike signal desktop. Just restore the signal backup file during setup and then click link with existing device. Then scan with you primary phone. Beauty of open source. Molly:...

Secondary phone, or any other additional android device (let’s say a tablet).

I started partially because of the second, now I’d never go back.

(The main reason was Windows update that made me lose a full month of work.)

Red-Hat still have an interest to keep it alive, so I still recommend Fedora to people.

It’s definitely not in the open-source spirit, but as long as the interest exists, it still a great distro for both newbies and advanced users.

I’ve found the distro that match my needs, so I won’t use Fedora, for that reason.

From their support page:

Other Devices

Multiple mobile devices and Android tablets are not currently supported.

From Molly GitHub:

'v6.31.2-1

Introducing Multi-Device Support!

Now, you can install Molly on multiple devices, including Android tablets, and link them to a single account, just like Signal Desktop. […]

No multi-device support on Android.

If you want to more than one Android device tied to your account, install Molly insead.

Download Linux Mint/Fedora ISO.

Make a bootable flash drive with Rufus for Windows systems, or DD for Unix-like OSs.

I'm not worried about saving my location. Are you? (upload.wikimedia.org)

In the privacy community there are services, programs for private maps use. Some even suggest using the phone without a SIM card (which is quite possible, but you can get into trouble). But I don’t use them, as my geolocation is already tracked by an advanced camera system in my city, by my cell provider via triangulation....

Quad9 are great.

IPv4:

9.9.9.9

149.112.112.112

IPv6:

2620:fe::fe

2620:fe::9

More options.

E: looks like someone already mentioned Quad9.

… and all of that was a really long way to say that I’m very satisfied with my distro.

You should have limited access to addons on stable Firefox.

On Firefox Beta/Nightly/Mull/Fennec, you can enable ‘Custom Add-on Collection’.

Proprietary apps work well on other profiles (users). Including banking apps.

Plus, that way you can even root your device, if you want to do so.

  • Use Shelter.

  • Use the built-in option. System > Multiple users.

btwOS.

I can’t tell you if it’s your cup of coffee. You should decide it by yourself.

eruchitanda,
@eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not sure that’s the problem you’re having, but worth a shot.

You have two ‘types’ of downloads on Firefox.

There is the ‘Files and Applications’ section, and right below it, you have another option for ‘other files’.

Try to change the second option to ‘Ask whether to open or save files’.

No idea about Windows right now, but on Linux (on 2 distros) both of the options work for me. Both on Firefox itself, and on a fork called Librewolf.

@eruchitanda@lemmy.world avatar

Any idea if there's a chance that the app will be open-source?
