Eloquence is now on the Apple TV! I can’t speak about the watch because mine hasn’t gotten it yet, but that’s awesome!

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@TheQuinbox Yep, it’s on the Watch too. It’s a relief to have it on the Apple TV, though considering how well the enhanced voices aren’t working, and haven’t been since 16.1.

Widgets on macOS are now accessible! You can drag them to your desktop using nothing more than VO actions, then they work just like they do on iOS! That’s awesome!

@TheQuinbox lucky. I’m stuck on Catalina. Actually, I’m supposed to be stuck on High Sierra but I used a patcher.

For those watching WWDC in a browser, there is a "Closed Captions" button which also brings up the audio description controls.
It's my first Apple event without the ability to easily bring up the MacRumoursLive Twitter timeline in an invisible interface. I'm spoiled by the small things, I guess.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@simon Thank you. Almost missed that

Tamasg, to random

Oof. This constant watch refreshing on Watch OS 10 means speech gets cut off. Don't get the OS 10 for the next beta is my recommendation. VoiceOver cuts its speech off in the middle of speaking a notification because somehow there's a screen refresh event.

@Tamasg I didn’t think mine was ever going to let me out of this stupid tutorial

@queenslight I've never had a problem before, knock on wood. I don't think they give a crap where watch parties are concerned

Of course I could not resist installing iOS 17 on my old phone. Overall it seems quite stable. Just a warning though, do not turn on Assistive Access. Once you load that option, VoiceOver becomes unavailable. If Apple adds VoiceOver to this mode, it’s going to be a game changer For those who struggle to use their phone. It’s almost as if you booted into a different operating system.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@gallagher123123 thanks for the warning. I hadn’t attempted to play with it yet, but it was on my list of stuff to mess with. Not anymore

I am working hard to turn my scrolling into scrolling. I am keeping the accounts seperate although i know they could interact because fedi. Having sublemmys on masto is a terrible idea since it boosts every single comment and not just the OP. That would get super annoying real quick.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 oh wow cool! Here’s another stupid one for me, I got super frustrated in my first few days with my phone because my music kept playing even when I left the music app. I had figured out by this time that when you wanted to stop doing something, you left the app. I wanted the music to go away, and it didn’t when I press the Home button. It took me forever to figure out how to make it shut up.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 mind if I ask which one? Admittedly, I’ve only used one client for the nearly 4 years I’ve needed it. Then again, I’m on iOS so we’re probably going to be using different stuff.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 I learned with Apple products, including a hilarious incident, where I accidentally factory reset my phone trying to switch the voice language back to English because I managed to break it

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 how well is that work? I’m currently engaged in going through beta software with a fine tooth comb so I can report every single voiceover bug ever.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 gotcha. I’m pretty much up to my nose in the Apple ecosystem. I have a BootCamp partition just so I can broadcast online and play games.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 jailbreaking was so awesome. I did it from iOS 7 all the way up to iOS 10, at which point I didn’t need to do it anymore because the functions I used that particular method to obtain became part of the system.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 at the time, the lesson was, don’t press buttons if you don’t know what they do. This was iOS 5, so there was no turning on voiceover by yourself, while trying to set up your phone, and I got into the mess in the first place by pressing random buttons.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@shortwavesurfer2009 what kind of client are you using?

Bad news, the enhanced voices are still not fixed. Good news, TVOS 17 comes with eloquence.

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@MostlyBlindGamer considering the enhanced quality voices on the Apple TV are utterly screwed up right now, it’s the best thing I have access to and I’ll take it

These new developments with the Apple TV and Apple Watch make me wonder if speech synthesizers that people build for iOS could be ported to those platforms now

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@glaroc I was wondering if that project ever came to fruition. I played with it when it was still in the TestFlight phase but I’ve kind of lost track of it.

Also, this new AutoCorrect stuff is kind of creepy. I typed three letters in Mr. phone just goes ahead and finishes the word.

@tmmahaff mine just does it if I let it sit for more than half a second it seems like.

Make no mistake, bugs suck in general, but I do love when they’re able to be captured with the screen recording. That makes my life a lot easier.

evilcookies98, to random
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

Can confirm the presence of that personal voice feature Apple previewed a little while back in the first iOS 17 beta

evilcookies98,
@evilcookies98@dragonscave.space avatar

@johann on the Apple TV, settings, accessibility, voiceover, scroll down to the speech section, then click voice. On the watch, settings, accessibility, voiceover, speech, voice. My bad, disregarded what I had just sent you, because I thought you meant something else. The personal voice thing is in the main screen of accessibility settings. Scroll down, and you’ll find a couple of options, live speech, and then personal voice.
