Mentally ill woman in her late 30s. Quit my jobs with DIDDs to go to work a retail job and go to school.

I’m here to help!

flicker,

I want to say (cuz I’ve said it a million times) that it can seem like occurrences are going up when really, people like me never got help. I didn’t get diagnosed until I was 34 and that was while getting treatment for depression!

There’s a lot more cases like mine than we know about, so even if we are only catching up to the “normal” number of neurologically atypical people, it’s going to seem like we are gaining more cases.

Local Mom’s Wine Club Cleverly Disguised as a Book Club, Fools No One But Themselves (lemmy.world)

In a quiet suburban neighborhood where minivans outnumber streetlights, a group of women have been ingeniously disguising their love of wine as a book club. While their intentions may be transparent to everyone else, these winos insist that their guise is a stroke of genius. “It’s a sophisticated literary club that explores...

flicker,

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Alcoholics in denial skyrocketed during the pandemic, only with a cutesy veneer of “wine moms” and the like.

flicker,

In this equation, you are playing victim by painting yourself as “opposition to genocide.” When called on this, you pivoted to pretend the poster was insulting victims of genocide

I wanted to tell you that kind of cheap pivoting technique doesn’t work here. I’m entirely against genocide and stand with Palestine, but this grandstanding is intellectually dishonest and makes you look like an entire clown.

I won’t be replying further on this.

flicker,

I’m so glad you pointed that out. I’ll be using clown fractions moving forward.

flicker,

Thank you very much.

flicker,

Sure, they take years to ban things like r/jailbait and all those fascist subs, but people with rooms to jerk off in a step too far.

I have zero interest one way or another in people who have the resources to devote a space to this, or the ego to want to share that space. It’s a completely foreign interest to me. But to ban people on the internet for being sexual in a way you don’t understand is equally beyond me.

flicker,

Couple things super quick. 1) nothing screams “I don’t care” like fighting someone for several lengthy replies and

  1. the insecurity about your race is gonna turn women off way more than your size.
flicker,

Bruh I got you and rab mixed up. This is why I try not to comment once my ADHD meds wear off.

flicker,

I agree they’re an asshole. But I do want to say I’ve been vegan off and on for… Jesus 17 years. Anyway, there’s this thing I noticed in some members of the community (not that guy) where their experience is so insular that they think everyone in the world knew 20 years ago that factory farming was environmentally disastrous but they just ignored it.

So they’re so burnt out on it that they become these crazy screaming judgey assholes. Then, add to that, that there really are the most remarkably assholish omnivores at almost every social event involving food. I was 22, and I got cornered at a work pot luck when a man found out I was vegan (I never ever mentioned it, I brought food! But someone finally dragged it out of me when I had to explain I couldn’t try their fried chicken) and he spent forteen minutes lecturing me on how not eating meat was an “insult to God” and how he’d eat twice as many animals because I was there.

…I was young and used to be too polite to get away from assholes like that. I’m better now.

My point here is, spending years and years of that makes you angry and bitter if you let it, especially if you’re a self-important jackass with a savior complex.

flicker,

Same witch that did Beast’s curse is the one who saved Gaston.

You have a year to prove you’re not a piece of shit or you die.

She doubles as a quest giver. “Here’s a couple quests. Pick one and do it. Every time you help someone you prove you’re a little less awful, and every time you ask me if you’ve done enough to be saved, you lose a few points of redemption credit, so don’t ask me if you’ve been good enough to not die. Get to cracking on these heroic deeds, chop chop.”

Make a few of the tasks morally complicated.

Make all of them take measurable time. Sure, rounding up sheep for the farmer isn’t too dangerous, but it’ll take you a while and it’s not as heroic as fighting that necromancer… which task do you take?

flicker,

If you ask a group of men what’s the first thing they would do if they woke up as a woman, almost all of them say something about sex.

If you ask a group of women what’s the first thing they would do if they woke up as a man, almost all of them say something about peeing on random objects/in random places.

rule (lemmy.cafe)

as much of a PSA as this is a meme lol. don’t seek dietary advice from randos on the internet. everyone is different and the advice you see from @bonerfart on !memes can be dangerous and should be taken with a grain of salt (metaphorically, not a dietary recommendation 😜). instead consider one or both of:...

flicker,

I grew up with the internet, so I’ve always been aware that it’s a lying pain in the ass.

And I submit for evidence the guy on keto reddit who insists that all your problems can be solved by drinking your own pee.

flicker,

I’m fixing to use this program to go to college in the fall. Pretty psyched.

flicker,

Well since I’m going from professional caregiver into a medical degree, my bedside manner will continue to involve my folksy southern style of speech.

So I’m fixin to go to school. Means “going to.”

flicker,

Also people back then had less access to the sunscreen and skincare we have. Not to mention exposure to all the rampant smoking.

Aging gracefully is easier now. Though I am constantly in awe of Jennifer Aniston’s arms. I’m gonna hafta get surgery to freshen my upper arm skin.

flicker,

I can’t speak for the others, but my upvote is because I read it the exact same way.

flicker,

Sertraline is an antidepressant. I’ve taken it. It worked fairly well for me. That said, if I told someone I was upping my dose and they said “that’s art deco,” I would assume they were referencing Sylvia Plath and L’Ennui via The Great Gatsby, and I would be impressed and agree.

And then I would be amused at their correct assumption that I, an LGBT white woman with depression, have familiarity with Sylvia Plath, and I would be impressed with their wit.

All that to say, you can just say anything, and sometimes you’ll get lucky.

flicker,

I do! Thanks!

flicker,

Mine is just that Maynard’s Dick exists.
