I provided an edit above, as you make a good point. I was frustrated with those uninformed with flashes, too, and realized that the inverse could be true, which is why I made this post. Here is the edit for expediency:
Edit
To provide some context given the messages below. I was a professional photographer, and understand that getting a good photo is a skill. Exposure time, timing, location, and many other factors come into play when capturing a great image.
Seeing the aurora was a fantastic experience. The purpose of this post is to help reduce FOMO of those who could not see it. Many people who don’t know these things will imagine dancing lights in the sky of brilliance, and will be saddened by what they missed. While they did miss something, it’s important for them to know exactly what they missed.
Edit2 I should also note this is why I enjoy when photographers post gear, conditions, and settings alongside results. It tells viewers what was real.
While true, this is a bit misleading. While rhe eye does have a higher dynamic range than a standard camera lens and sensor, that is only true when there is enough light. In the dark, the situation is reversed, as the human eye has difficulty taking advantage of that range.
Not always, the gradient might not be good for wheelchairs, and could cost more to level when there is a full budget.
Granted this does not appear to be the case here. Desire paths will always exist, though, as the ingenuity of a subset of the many will always outweigh the few.
I have used Ubuntu for years. I’m not a noob by any means, and would consider myself more advanced than most users. I used to love tinkering, but once I had a set of scripts built that set everything up just the way I like it on a new install, the need to tinker faded.
I have recently switched to Debian due to bloat and snaps, but I won’t ever judge an Ubuntu user.
For those that don’t know, a large solar storm is occurring this weekend that may allow much of the US to see the northern lights. However, the forecast calls for clouds where I am, and most of the east coast. space.com/solar-storm-coronal-mass-ejections-moth…
Drove into VT since the forecast looked better and waited out the clouds, got a pretty good view after 2200. No major dancing of lights, but colorful streaks and of course the camera picked up way more than could be seen.
I dont know if this has been asked before or if this may be a little goofy of a question but I didn’t see anything relating to it and I’m kinda curious what the culture of Lemmy is like and what sort of common things people see. ive been paying attention to interactions but nothing is as good as just asking everyone.

It’s kinda how you read the name, innit?
Using Ubuntu may give off hipster vibes to the average PC user, but within the Linux community its has the opposite effect.
